Loving a Sailor isn't much fun
but its worth the price when the battle is won.
And remember he's thinking of you every day,
he's sad and he's lonely while so far away.
So love him and miss him and hold your head high,
Be strong and have faith, wipe that tear from your eye.
Your man's a seafarer, like that old ancient trader,
It's a high price you pay for loving a Sailor!

Rhonda - My son loves it when they go out to sea, he says it's not boring like it is while they are in port. It hasn't been a year yet for my son but he's adjusting to life on a ship. He still isn't too happy about being undes. but he said he can strike for a rate in Sept.

I hope you guys can get out to CA, the weather is perfect and it's just beautiful out there. I've been out there 4 times and I really hate leaving. If my husband didn't have such a good job here we'd be out there in a heartbeat. I was asked by my company to move to Minneapolis and I told them no way! Thank God I didn't move, you guys up North have had your share of horrible weather this year.

Please let me know if/when you guys can go out to San Diego and I'll let you know the ins and outs of staying on base if you don't already know. I can also let you know what there is to do while you're there.

Well... I guess there is gonna be drills, inspections and mini deployments for the next month or so. Let's all hope that they pass, so all the sailors can go on leave before they go on the big one in May. I just wanted to wish them the best!

babrams--my son got new tattoos on the back of his biceps, it says "Never Quit"! I told him he better live by those words now. He has so far :) He's had it pretty rough his first year. My hubby and I are thinking about moving out there, told my son to make E-5 first. He says we would love it out there. Sure beats freezing in Wisconsin.

Rhonda - That's great news, my son surprised us and came home on Jan. 5th. and is leaving tomorrow, Jan. 8th. We are having a wonderful time plus he has been able to visit a lot of his friends this time around. He hasn't said if he would come home in April yet but I'm sure he will if he can. There are all kinds of things to do out there that isn't too expensive and some of it is free if you like sightseeing. We spent a lot of time on the beach and at Balboa Park.

babrams7--That was really awesome you got to go be with him, mine came home and is leaving Sun. gonna miss the little shit! How did you like it? We are planning on going out there in Nov. when they get back from deployment. I'll have to get in contact with you for some details for things to do while there. Is your son planning on coming home in April? Mine is, they get that two week leave before going. I hear you about the cold, my son has been cold since he got here, even went and bought himself a couple of hats! LOL

Hi All - I haven't been on here lately either. We flew out to San Diego
to spend Christmas with our son. I didn't want him to be alone on
Christmas. Since it was the holidays he only had duty on the 24th. and
the 27th. so we had the rest of the week with him after his duty days.
It was a shock coming home to the cold after being in sunny CA.

MY SON IS GETTING FROCKED TODAY!!!

I just wanna congratulate my son, he's worked very hard to earn this! Very proud of him for achieving something so fast. Love ya, son!

Thanks Sis, I think it helps when a family can help raise them just like they say it takes a village.
Babrams--Thank you, and I think it's awesome that our boys know of one another. My son was telling me that they are looking for contingent search and rescue swimmers, and I know your son was almost there, they are on stand by when someone falls in they jump in and rescue, he won't have to carry a gun. Colten was gonna check into doing that as an extra job and extra pay. Pass it on to your son! Could be something he's interested in.

Rhonda - Congrats to Colten!!!
When my son was home for Thanksgiving I asked him if he knew your son and he does. My son says they call him Reed on the ship (that's not his name) they call him that b/c there was a guy on the ship by that name and he looks a little like him. My son says your son is a great guy and was trying to talk him into doing what he does.
Once again congrats and you have every right to be bragging about him.

I got a great phone call yesterday from my son and I have never heard him so happy. "Mom, I made E-4!" The happiness I heard in his voice was more than the "I'm a sailor call." He has gone from an E-1 to an E-4 in a years time. He gets frocked this Friday when they are out at sea, I wish I could be there to see it! Bragging just a bit, very proud of my son!!!
