Does anyone know if the USS Ross will be going anywhere during the next few weeks?
My daughter is leaving the Naval Academy tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. with some other midshipmen to join the USS Ross for a few weeks.
He's undes. Wow, you have two in! I'll bet you miss them! My son said they got off early as well! He is enjoying it so far!
Pagpie, what is your son's job? When did he join the Navy? Lindsay actually got off early yesterday, 3:30! She is going to the beach today with some friends. She said yesterday was really hot, on and off the ship. My son is an EM Nuke on the Uss Enterprise, currently deployed. His first ship and deployment. He said it isn't too bad.
He called! Sounded great and looking forward to learning all he can! He said they worked long days but he enjoyed it. He had nothing but positive things to say about everyone he met and the morale of all on board. It sounds like he is in a great place!
He can use his cell phone on deck when they are in port but once inside the spaces, nobody's phone works. Security reasons. It can be exciting but boring at times too. It's all about the attitude one has and willingness to do your job whatever it is. There are ups and downs.
Thanks so much, Colleen! He arrived there last night and I'm sure he's settling right in! I'm excited to hear from him but realize they probably don't have much of a chance to call. I think I read they don't get reception on the ship???? I'm sure he's busy anyway. I'm kind of jealous! It seems like an exciting adventure!
Magpie, I'm sure any sailors your son meets can help him with anything he needs. My daughter is the ships' Legal Officer and First Lieutenant.(in charge of things topside) She can head him in the right direction if he looks her up!
Yes, Colleen, it is! I am hoping he can dump Hot Spot through Verizon. Good suggestion! I'll give him the info!
Magpie, it this your son's first ship? It it my daughter's but she's been on since Sept. 2010 when she joined it mid deployment. There is a McDonald's close to the piers and wifi might be available there.
