Blue star mothers have been around since the world war... They have a flag with one blue star for every child you have in the service during war. It is typically displayed in the front window of the home. If a child dies during war, the blue star is covered with a gold star that does not completely cover the blue star. There are chapters of blue star mothers in every state, they are another avenue of support for us. More info can be found on the web. My blue star flag has been hanging in the window for several years.

Deborah, It's good to hear from you. I know it's been a very difficult week for you. We will pray that your Mom has developed some strength to get over her pneumonia. Sally, I haven't heard of the Blue Star Mothers. What do you know about it?

I am glad you get to teach writing for fun!  My mom came through the surgery fine but her recovery has been very rocky.  I have been working all day and then driving 60 miles to the hospital every night to see her.  My sister has taken time off and has driven my dad to the hospital every morning and stayed until evening. Yesterday was her worst day yet.  But this morning . . . everything changed.  She was talking, she stood up, she sat in a chair for a half an hour, and in general was much better.  But this evening she was having trouble breathing (she has developed pneumonia now) and again it was hard to leave her.  My sister is spending the night with her which is good but . . .  really wears my sister out.  Please continue to pray.  I appreciate every prayer!

Hi Colleen it is so great to hear from you. Ladies, a couple of years ago I was given this message through my e-mail from a very dear friend who is no longer hear with us. And every now and then when I am feeling a little down, and I need my Spirits lifted, I look back in my saved messages and play this.

Thanks, Susan.  I feel all the prayers.  Today I'm going to do my writing group and teach a writing workshop.  It's great having these things that I love doing.  My sister in law's funeral was last Thursday.  My hubby will be home next week.  He usually calls almost every day now.  I miss hearing from Aaron, too.  I wonder if he got the news yet.  I "see" my cousin's children on facebook.  My heart especially hurts for her daughter, who is my daughter's age. Lois will miss all of her milestones.  I wish I could be there to hold her in my arms and help her through hard days.  God knows and He is there for her.  She has her aunt Vicki and her brother Kyle to help her through these times.  She is a great girl.

Hello Everyone, How are all of you doing? Deborah, if you get a chance, let us know how your Mom is doing. Colleen, how are you? How is your husbands  family?  Gee, you girls are always on my mind with so much on everyone's plate. I think we all need desperately for our sons to pull into port and hear their voices. That would really just make our 'Day".Sally, it's always great to hear from you. It sounds like you have a demanding job being out on the road. If you're ever over here in NJ make sure you let me know so we can meet up some time.I sent Christopher an e-mail last Sunday, I'm not to sure when we will hear from him, I have alot of things to talk to him about. God Bless to All.

Susan, I contacted the Red Cross and they said they don't send messages for cousins or aunts.  The ombudsman did get the information through, though.  I am so tired right now, emotionally.
