I sent my Christmas package on 11-19 and my son said he received it on the 29th. That was really fast. My guess is that it will take longer because of all the packages that are being sent for Christmas. I plan on sending another one soon.
Merry Christmas to all of you!!
What great ideas, Melonie! I wonder if it's to late to send a New Years box. Does anyone know about how long it takes for the boxes to get to them?
Sounds like fun to me!! I made a wreath out of Tootsie Rolls for Erik. I saw the pattern for it online, but with Starlite Mints. Erik doesn't like mints, though, he likes Tootsie Rolls. Therefore.....I think he'll like it.
I found it at Target. I tried to make the package a bit more fun and threw in some Silly String and a bouncy ball. (I got the idea from Kristine's Mom). I can see the eyes rolling and the "what the heck" from my boy.
T-Mon: Where did you find the little Christmas tree? That is a FANTASTIC idea!! I'll have to do that next year!
We will be in Southern India after the first of the year for my daughters wedding. It is driving me crazy that he will be so close (it looks close on the Map :) and yet we will not get to see him. I have to keep reminding myself that he will not be surprising us.
I went quite a while without hearing for Aaron. It was such a relief to get his emails. I will keep my fingers crossed that you will here from your sailor soon.
Thank you all for your support. Family members and friends just don't understand why I feel this way. I'm glad that you all do. I keeping hoping even though I know it won't happen that just maybe he will suprise us and come home for Christmas. I will just have to wait until this deployment is over and focus on seeing him then. Hopefully, an e-mail will come my way soon.
I am thankful that Aaron is not in a more dangerous situation. I can't imagine how lonely it must be for our soldiers. So far away when they are used to being surrounded by family. I sent Aaron a small foil Christmas tree that pugs into his laptop's USB port. I wanted him to have a bit of Christmas.
I know what you mean about the emotions. I felt I had to put up Aaron's stocking, but I cry every time I look at it.
It is hard - this is the first year Erik hasn't been able to come home for Christmas. I know, I know - I'm spoiled!! And everyone thinks I've lost it because every time "I'll Be Home For Christmas" comes on I start crying. (I'm tearing up just THINKING about it!!) I just miss him so much.... ( Even when he IS home I think about all our men and women away from their families and cry when that song come on!! I'm such a baby!)
I know what you mean. It has been just my son and I at home for quite some time and then all of a sudden he was gone. I have not had any emails from him either until this weekend. I had to finally contact the Ombudsman. I don't know if it was coincidence, but he finally contacted us. It really is difficult to get into the spirit but I am doing so much better now that I am getting emails. Aaron did say that the internet was down quite a bit. I hope you hear from your son soon.
