He said that he was sick for 2 days and the medic gave him Dramamine. He now has his sea legs. He says that they keep him busy and everyone is very nice.

My son will call home from his cell phone when he gets to a port. He said that he would e-mail from the ship when he gets a chance. I have not heard from him since he was in Hawaii. Hopefully I will hear something this week.

This is my son's first deployment as well. He is not much of a communicator so I am afraid of the long periods without phone calls. How is you son communication? Do they have access to a phone if they have a phone card?

My son is on his first deployment. We are so proud of him! I miss his Sunday phone call and think of him everyday. Hope I get used to this soon.

SAN DIEGO—A Navy commander says a U.S. destroyer on a training exercise collided into a civilian dive vessel off Southern California's Pacific coast.
U.S. Navy Commander Greg Hicks says there were no injuries reported from the accident late Sunday and officials were investigating the cause.
Hicks says the USS Shoup, a guided-missile destroyer, suffered scrapes but both vessels were functioning.
The 509-foot-long Shoup carries about 380 people and is training out at sea with the Abraham Lincoln strike group.
Hicks says the civilian vessel is believed to be a 21-foot-long dive vessel.
