We love our sailor nick, if he should call from the ship it will be area code 757 the number my son calls from is 757 443 7771, hope that helps

We love our sailor nick, email is good, but if he doesn't know your email, you can send it to him in a letter, then he can email you any time, also, my son has an Iphone, he got a world traveler plan through AT&T for $5.99 a month, it gives him a discounted rate on minutes, when he calls from ports.  He will be able to call from the ship once in a while, I have heard from my son twice, but in order to do that, he will need some AT&T global ship to shore calling cards. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask, my email is tammymedassist@yahoo.com  I will try to help anyway I can, what division is your son in?  My son was mess crank, now he is flight deck.  His name is Joe Nussbaum that is him in the picture with me

Welcome, this is my son's first deployment, he is also a navy brat, born in Virginia Beach, your son will be fine, if there is anything I can do to help you please let me know, I will be glad to help anyway I can

I know my son will be fine, I am a former navy wife myself, but since my husband did not retire, we lost our priveledges so it was hard not being able to be there to see him off.

My son is on the Vella Gulf, this is his first deployment, just turned 20 years old yesterday, Since I do not have base priveledges, I cannot get him the necessary prepaid phone card from the NEX that says "can be used on the ship" to call home , it must say for use from the ship.  I send him monthly care packages but that is the only thing I cannot get, if someone could please help with that, I would be very greatful.  He called today because the ship gave him one, but once that is used up, that is it.  Thank you all

My son is deploying on the Vella Gulf. What's the process for getting on base and seeing a son/daughter off?  Please email me at sm_maddock@yahoo.com. Thanks a bunch. Sheralyn

Siobhan, my dear...oh so very sorry. My heart just aches for all that each of you are going through...wow. So many heartfelt prayers going out for your son and you. How awful. I know God gives no more than we can bare, but it still doesn't make it any easier. Please let us know if we can help in any way, send him cards, or care packages, etc. Will be doing a lot of praying. The road ahead may seem overwhelming, but don't walk it alone. Lean on others, share, cry, let us "hold you" up...anything...anytime.
Now what things does Mike plan to do? A bit overshadowed by the needs of his brother at the moment, but perhaps was meant to be, may be to spend the time together, gathering strength, support, for each other.

Julie, yes...please don't wander far! "Family" does look out one for the other, and Matt may be moving on, not gone! Once a VGer, always one...in heart! Please keep us informed too. Time for the next new chapter to begin! Safety for him, and happiness in his new adventures.. pray that the new command be as adventurous and sweet spirited kindness....

My son recently has been assigned to the Vella Gulf and it is in port. They're doing a lot of work on the ship getting ready for an inspection. It'll go out to sea for a short trip soon.
