For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Welcome! and Congrats! Come on over to the main discussion for Wa/Or and join us there for even more discussions and answers -- our "archive library" of Q & A about Washington is there also and very helpful for new Moms. Of course we're happy to answer any questions too ...... But first....... where is your son going to be stationed? Bangor? Bremerton? Whidbey? Everett ?? (in Wa state) What's his rate? Has he ever been to the NW before - he will love this corner of the world! did you go to PIR ceremony? Is he on a ship or with an Aircrew squadron or ?

Thank you for the welcome! My son will be stationed at Whidbey & part of an aircrew squadron. His rate is PR and although we have traveled extensively throughout th US, we have yet to reach the NW. He is very excited to be back into a climate he is familiar with (We are located in MN). My son has been in Pensacola for A school since mid May (have to love long holds). I was fortunate to go to his PIR & Pensacola for a short visit.
I'm not familiar with how the squadron works vs. ships. He has stated that he will probably never be in a ship... Is that possible?
I'm currently planning a spring trip with my mother & then a summer family vacation. Just trying to figure all the details out before I plan too much! Again, thank you for the welcome & I look forward to getting to know more of you! -

Good Morning! YES! my son is with VP 47 out of Hawaii, and is the "Radar Guy" on a P - 3 Orion Surveillance Sub-Hunter, Fixed-Wing aircraft. Those can't land on ships-must have runways to take off and land so he will never be on a ship (always near an airport, or deployed near an airport/airstrip somewhere in the world) Here's a link to the Aircrew Squadrons. Now, some "attack planes and fighter jets" DO land on ships, and of course some HELO squadrons too so those squadrons are ship-based. BUT Whidbey is a land-based naval air station, so whether your son is in the aircraft, or maintains the aircraft or is administration for the aircraft, chances are he'll not be on a ship. (unless....is a Helo team ever assigned to a ship, from Whidbey as an emergency/temporary duty - Whidbey Moms will know more) and the next link is to the AIRCREW group here at NavyforMoms. - aah! He's working with the Prowlers - long range electronic warfare aircraft !! whoop whoop! its all on that link above, and you can search online for that squadron's website or facebook site too for some late night reading it's what I did for the first 2 years, lots and lots of reading :--)
