I am a Southeastern WI mom, 40 minutes from RTC
Facebook group for Northwestern Wisconsin Navy Moms:
Phases of 1 to 3 are based on the command, no two are alike. Some can phase up fast, some take alot longer. The usual things they have to do is time, then shadowing watches and duty and then actual shifts and also inspections. Then they have to write paperwork and have it signed off by their section leader and submitted for approval. For example, my Sailor PIR'd back the first of March and has just been finally been able to put in for approval for his phase 3 and that will take about 10 days to be approved. But each command is different!!
My son just arrived in Pensacola on Saturday from PIR! He is Aircrew and is on a month hold. He is bunking with a sailor from Pardeeville, Wisconsin and one from Illinois. We are from Wisconsin so they joked about putting all the midwestern boys together. It is so nice to be able to talk with him on his cell now. One question: what determines when/how they move from phase 1 to phase 2 to phase 3?
Good idea Mindshaper87. Sarge's info will be very valuable especially with the number of divisions in your PIR group. We only had 7 divisions for TG 23 so there were no issues getting onto the base and such for parking. With more divisons it becomes a bit more hectic.
Debi we are driving from Eau Claire. I am hoping to get to Sarge's Meet and Greet by 7:00. My parents will go early and take notes for me. We have a hotel through Sunday just in case my son doesn't fly out Saturday morning.
Mindshper87 where are you driving from for PIR? We're in Milwaukee and it was on the list of "approved distances" from base for PIR liberty. We did get a hotel in Waukegan anyway because on Thursday they have the Meet and Greet with Sarge..very valuable info!! and then we figured he'd be flying out on Saturday with his fellow sailors to A school..didn't quite happen that way so we got to have him from 8 am Saturday am til 8pm saturday night and again on Sunday..so we brought him home and drove him back to base at night. It was great to get extra time with him!!
HI GodBlessAmerica...things are going good with my "SeaBee". He's at Fort Leonard Wood learning how to handle adult sized Tonka Toys :) Every little boy's dream! LOL
The second's ship date is rapidly approaching. We've received our tickets to the White Sox game in Chicago to see him Swear In there :) And I'm bracing for the "kid in a box" because he'll have to send his phone and his special Tshirt home unlike kid #1 who we told to toss everything. So it'll be a new experience but I'll be ready for this one :)
My only hope is that son #1 doesn't graduate from A school the same week as son #2 PIR's from Boot Camp! LOL Talk about a quandry..and it could happen that way too!
My SR is scheduled to PIR on May 31. I am so anxious to see him! I am glad we can drive to PIR. It would break my heart if I couldn't be there!
Debi, how are things with your sailor? Are you prepared to send the second one to boot camp yet?
