Good Idea about the stairs..thank you..writing it down on my PIR tips and tricks sheet :)
One funny story about PIR, it was easier finding my son at O'Hare the day after PIR then at PIR the day of the event. Within minutes of arriving at the airport, I found him. After the graduation, I don't think we were reunited for close to 15 minutes. You guys won't have that problem because you will be able to see your sailors during the ceremony. However, here is a suggestion. There is an upstairs and a floor level. ALL the parents rush to the floor level to greet their sailors. Tell your sailors to meet you at the stairs in the middle of the hall that lead to the upper level. You won't be able to miss it. Your sailors will know the spot. You won't have to look through the sea of sailors and family to get to each other.
Melindy, how wonderful that you have family in Charleston. That will be so nice for you and your daughter. I think it is important that the sailors get time away from base and the Navy. Down time/ relaxation is an important element in all of our lives. It is also important to have some home cooked food. I try to be extremely positive, but my sailor doesn't always talk too highly of the food. And, he is not a picky eater.
Debi,
We will definitely be trying to spend as much time as we can with her before she goes. My 12 yo son is anxious to see her and is counting the days
Well Melindy it sounds like our kids will be going together. Elias is also going Nuke so off to Goose Creek he will go. Are you planning on going to the airport to see your daughter off? We'll be going to spend as much time as possible with Elias before he leaves. Maybe we'll see you there ;)
It has been a long time since I was on.. in this group. It was so quiet for so long. Thanks to Debi for having me check again. Welcome to all the new moms. It is so good to see a few more WI moms.
My son is in Charleston, SC. He is in the training process to be a Nuc.
While my son was in basic, he was in division 917. They weren't a performing division. I actually forget what they were called. However, they all had 'duties." As a result, they didn't "march" during PIR. Most of the division were behind the scenes doing their duties. None the less, it was great going to PIR.
My advice to get through boot camp, is write, write, and write some more. Pray. And, count down the days.
Hi Melindy! My SR has his PIR on 4/19 also. We're in the Milwaukee Area :) What performance group is your daughter with? Band/choir/flags?
