SimplyJRB-Pcola AD ~ I will check out Fanagan's to see if they are open on Thanksgiving. We have about 10 people going counting my son and his buddy.

mom2nw ~ I would love to get the AAAtour book... do you know where I could get one? We are not actually going to stay the night on Thanksgiving... we are checking into renting a house for the day... that way we have a place to congrigate and get some family time in with our son and his buddy. We will be staying over night for PIR... I believe our reservations are at the Marriott. I will checked out the Lone Star online... not too many good reviews... more average. HHHmmmm

Kris & Bob ~ Thx... I will check out the Blue Moon too.

Thx everyone for your help!!! I appreciate it so much!

On Hwy 41 there is a place called Blue Moon, it has great home cooked food. It is kind of truck stop place. If you go west from the north gate to Hwy 41, take a left and it's right down the road on the left. Navy Lodge is a good place to stay, cheaper then the other motels and easier to get your sailor from and back to base.

Richardsmom....I've got a AAAtour book and Lake County visitor guide if you want them...
We stayed at Best Western in Gurnee across from 6Flags early October--really comfortable beds--got the last room in the place and, oh well, it was a jacuzzi room---Nick appreciated that!. Also ate at Lone Star (yes, really good, but $$)
I'm sure there are places that are open at Thanksgiving...if all else fails: Denny's, IHOP ?

Flanagan's wasn't bad either. That is just up the road from the base. In Sept. we stayed at the Navy Lodge. Hard to find, internet directions were a little screwy. But the room, the staff, everything was great!!! And the price was good too!!!!

Next to our hotel...LaQuinta (very nice hotel with pool and hot tub) had Cracker Barrel (awesome) and a Outback steak house (was too packed so we went to Lone Star next to Gurnee Mills. That was really good (but pricey). Do not stay at the Crossland Suites! We saw the hotel and switched to the LaQuinta and were VERY glad we did. There are TONS of resturants in Gurnee so you won't have problems finding a place to eat 15 minutes from base. Best of luck :)

Hello everyone... My son is currently at boot camp. I will get to see him on Thanksgiving as we will be adopting him and one of his buddies. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to eat in the Great Lakes area? Thx so much for your help!
