Thanks nancynature (nancy?) for the welcome. My son is going to Mississippi after BC for aereographer's mate. I told him this morning that once he gets through BC (in one piece) I'll breath a little better. He's been going to meeting every other week in Kenosha at the recruiters station. He's learned alot there about what to expect at BC. Hope that helps him. He is signed on as an E-3.
What is PM? (personal messaging?) I'd like that.
Thanks again for the info and hope I can keep asking questions !?!
Congratulations MyKidIsInNavy! Great job on 1st in class! Be loud, be PROUD!!!
Milwaukee Mom checking in !!! Mine PIR'd (graduated) 3/8/13...he is getting ready to graduate A school, all is going GREAT, not so happy he is #1 in his class and got his first choice on dream sheet and is headed overseas for 3 years, but I am PROUD of him and he is doing AWESOME. It is hard at first for sure, then you get use to them being gone, and once boot is over and you can send texts and have daily conversations, it is all better again. I am so proud of my Son and all he is doing and done.....not everyone is given this opportunity, so I feel blessed it works for him
Welcome Shesh! So glad you found us and we are here for you! My son has already gone through BC, graduated on the 31st of May. He is currently in Pensacola waiting to class up for rescue swimmer school. He will have at least a year there.
It is hard on us moms, I won't lie about that. I think it is hard for dads too just not quite in the same way... What would like you to know? We are an open book! :) It is scary not knowing what is ahead for them. I am sure he will do fine. I will tell you though that if he wants to get through boot camp without issues for himself, he needs to listen and do exactly as he is told and he will be fine. My sailor did what he was told to do, when he was told to and he treated all in charge with respect and he received that back.
My initial thoughts for you - be patient, be supportive even when he is feeling down (he will get frustrated with others), keep yourself busy while he is gone(this website is great for that!), keep your phone on and with you at all times and pray a lot. It really does help.
What job (rating)did your son sign his contract for?
BTW, I am north of you by about an hour or hour and a half. If you want you can PM too.
I'm new to this group and hoping for any support I can get. I have a son leaving for BC on the 24th of Sept. I'm feeling quite anxious about it. Like you, tthomas, I live in Waterford so he won't be far, down at Great Lakes, however that doesn't mean I can talk with him or see him. I'd really like to connect with anyone going thru this now or has "survived it"

Welcome, thomas, my son is currently stationed in Charleston, South Carolina in the nuclear program. He is just starting his third, and final, leg of schooling. He has been in a little over a year. He talks about reenlisting at least one more time, but we'll see. When he started, he talked about making it is career. I don't hear that talk quite as much now. Again, we'll see. Time can change a lot.
Congrats, Fay, to your sailor. And, happy birthday!
Congratulations Fay to your Sailor! It is excellent that you get to see him being pinned! Very cool!
tthomas- nope your son came in after my sailor graduated. I would think being a RDC has it rewards but probably more frustrations, especially in the beginning! I'm glad he is happy. It really is neat to see how growing up and maturing can have such positive effects on our kids. Makes me able to breathe again! ;)
My sailor is in P'scola right now. He loves it there but wishes there weren't such long wait times for classing up. Oh well! As we all know it is a hurry up and wait deal.
Hi nancynature(alumni Div 811), thanks for the welcome. I can tell you that my son has changed his mind about staying in at least 3 or 4 times. He just picked up his first division at the beginning of August. His training was really quite intense. But he is really happy now. He is not married but has a girlfriend that he had all through highschool. They were broken up and dating other people for about 4 years and saw each other when ever he came home.. As soon as he came back to the midwest to stay they got together and they are so happy. It is nice to see because they are so much more mature now. I will try to get a photo on here soon. Where is you son at now? How is he liking it so far?
