Hi tthomas! Nice to have you here! My son is planning on being a 'lifer' also but he just started so we'll see. :) He is on the pipeline for Rescue Swimmer.
That is so nice that you have him close by. Does he have a family or still single? It's hard enough having our children away but in-laws and grandchildren far away is also tough. How long has your son been RDC? I am wondering if my son had him when he went through BC. His PIR was the 31st of May.
Hi, I am new to this group and from what I've been reading, probably the "old lady" here. My son has been in the Navy for just over 6 years. He did A-School at Great Lakes, C-School in San Diego, was on the USS Comfort for a humanitarian tour and was stationed in Norfolk on the USS IWO JIMA, where he was deployed twice. The last deployment was a long one, 10 months. He is now back at Great Lakes as a Recruit Division Commander. We live in Racine so it is so nice to have him so close to home and on land for at least the next 2 1/2 years. He has re-enlisted for another 6 years so I believe he is going to be a "Lifer". I certainly don't have all of the answers, but I've had a lot of experience with the Navy, so if I can be of any help to anyone, let me know. It's a whole different perspective seeing things from the Boot Camp Commanders Side.
LOL Thanks Nancynature! So far it has been an adventure for Elias! He arrived safe and sound..was picked up..and assigned a barracks room. supposedly he was to have a roommate BUT the roommate only had a 6pack of beer, moldy food in fridge, an unmade bed and his laptop in the room. No clothes or any other gear. The command wasn't sure who this 'roommate' is either so he had til today to clear out his gear. Now with Elias being 19 the beer is an issue. His command told him to just leave it and they will get rid of it on Friday if this sailor doesn't show up.
Debi - Congratulations! I would think it was bitter sweet.... Nice to see them get on with their lives and start their jobs but hard to say good bye.
I do love DC. Praying he does well and enjoys his new duty station!
Well my SeaBee is headed to D.C. for his first duty assignment. We put him on his plane this morning in Milwaukee. I offered to call the Navy and tell them that I'd used some Raid on him and that he couldn't fly anymore :) LOL He just said..Ahhh no. Darn that kid!! LOL
Congrats Fay! What an accomplishment! My son is going for his PO3 rank in September!! Keep fingers crossed!
Congrats, Fay to you and your son. Enjoy your trip!
Congratulations to your sailor and you Fay! Such a great accomplishment! Enjoy the ceremony and your time with your CPO!!! :)
