hello,

I haven't been on in quite a while just wanted to say that my son has had so much success as a Yeoman. He is currently starting his reenlistment in San Diego. He was in Norfolk, Va. and worked with a Strike force. He saw minimal Sea duty but learned so much on how the NAVY worked as the group was less that 100 strong. He had the best mentor and excelled in his job. He is now on  go to a shore duty  and working with the systems that he had to be screened to a secret clearance. He says the he will spend the next four years leaning a great trade and go to school and get his degree. I am very proud for him. The best part about his new job for me is that he now lives less than 2 hours from me. I see the advantages of my son as a Yeoman.

Here is a dumb question....why does the SR have to pay for the difference in flight costs if he goes from leave to 1st orders? I don't understand that at all...doesn't the military just route them from point A to point B and pay for the charges?

Thank you WestCoast Mom for the info. This entire journey has been a learning experience for both my son and me.

It all depends when he actually starts school (at the time when my son went in there was a week waiting time). I think it took about 5 weeks of his A School and then came home for a couple of weeks then got his orders to report to Norfolk, VA. Early on they asked where they'd like to be stationed and usually they get placed in one of the three choices they picked. My son's PIR was 5/10/13, he's been deployed since January to North Africa/European areas. He's coming home in July--can't wait to see him.

How far into school do they find out their 1st assignment or orders??? I am just wondering what his next adventure will be after BC and "A" school!!
