need some advice. I received a call from my son tonight. He is being harrassed by some Marine roomates. This has been going kn for a few days. My son iz marrid and was speaking to his wife when one of these marines threatenec him with a hot iron. My son left the dorm and called me. I know there has to be some sort of chain of command of MP or someone he can discuss this issue with. I also know that he is no longer in a Civilian world so perhaps the rules are different. However the only advice I could give my son was to calm down and pray. Think about what he learned from boot camp. There has to be some way he can avoid fighting with these Marines. He says they are trying to provoke him to fight. My son is a strong and tall guy. Ex football player. He wont provoke a fight but he wont walk away from one. He has a wife and son. The days are long gone Where I can call the principle or the Football coach! He ended the conversation by saying he would be all right and not to worry. Sure son! Call your mother and tell her you are threatenec by 3 marines you have to sleep in the same room with, but have a good night and dont worry? What would you ladies suggest? Any similar experiences?
Just wondering if anyone knows this answer?
My son went into the Navy as undesignated. After 16 months they moved him into the job (rate) Yeoman.
When I look at the posting here most sailors have gone off to Yeoman school. Just wondering why my son hasn't. The only classes his taken have been a few legal courses here and there?
petrojax, It's 48 days from his first actual day of class. School In Meridian stops for the holidays. Just make sure you check with your son on his dates for leave, and tell him to put in early for his leave. IF he's already in Groton by then they work a little different there. And in case no one has told you Meridian has a fb page. It's called NTTC Meridian! They post graduation pics and pics from other things.
Navyboy2012 My son classed up today. He got there on 10/19 and got his green dot on 10/25. He is loving the freedom, sleep and more relaxed atmosphere. So, to figure out his leave, do I count 48 days from today? I'm planning on having the whole family here for him for a Christmas dinner whenever he is here in December.
Donna, thank you! I think that my sailor will enjoy it too, he love being yeoman for his division in boot camp.
Sharon, Did your son class up today too? How does he like Meridian? My YNSA's initials are MVP. Maybe our sons have met.
Hi! My son also had his PIR on 10/18. He is at Meridian now for training as a Yeoman.
navymom17, You ask how do they decided where they get stationed! Navy ask sailors to pick three places they would like to be stationed at, and if the sailors are real luck they will get one of their picks. Most times I understand sailors don't get there picks. My son was lucky enough to get one of his pick.
petrojax, BC graduation is a great experience! Graduation for A school and BESS are very small compared to that one, and you can go to them to if you want. If your son classed up right away he will be done and out of Meridian in no time. Yeoman really does only take 48 days provided he does the work and stays out of trouble. They have a lot of freedom in Meridian. A school is nothing like BC!
Hi Petrolax,
Congrat's on your new sailor. So exciting.
I wish I had advice to give but like you I'm at the learning stages of Yeoman life. My son Andrew has been in the Navy since March of 2012 but only became a Yeoman in July of this year. He has enjoyed this position.
Welcome!
My son just left GL today for "A" school in Meridian on his journey towards yeoman. Any advice or wisdom from those who have traveled this path is appreciated. He is an E-2, and the ceremony at GL was beautiful.
my son just arrived in meridian,ms. He is going in to yeoman aschool. My question is, how do they decide where they get stationed ,do they pick, etc thank you
Hi Leslie,
Boy would I love it if my son could switch!!!!! I've just read your message to my husband. He doesn't think my son has enough experience yet, as he's only been a YN for less then 2 months.
I see you live in CA. I live in CT. Boy oh Boy how wonderful would that be for me to have him living closer to home again!
BTW, my son is a E3. He's just taken his petty officer 3rd class test but won't have the results for a while.
Do you live close to San Diego?
