i know she wants to be there, her bf is there, and i'm happy for her but sad at the same time. figure i have 2 years to save up before i go
Hi all. My son is a PACT Airman assigned to the USS GW in Yokosuka. He's been there since Dec 30th. So far, he loves it. I think he's enjoying being a grown up. He just turned 19 on Jan 5th.
I don't like having him so far away but I think it's a great opportunity for him. Hopefully I can make it there to visit before he leaves. He's going to try to work it out so that he stays there for a couple of years.
Nrainygrl - My son was home in November after basic and had to renew his passport before leaving. Of course, it didn't come in before he left so I had to send it to him in Japan. Even though they don't need a passport to go to Japan due to being military, his ship required him to have one. They told him he needs it in case they have to fly him off the ship (I'm assuming for medical emergencies or something) to a country that would require it.
Welcome to all the new family members!
Nrainygrl - my #2 son was just home and took his passport back with him. It seems there has been a change and Japan does not want to use orders/leave chit for coming back into the country. It was fine for leaving to go to the US but he said he will need the passport to get back. Also if your sailor plans to travel to other countries while on leave he will need it.
Nrainygrl - Welcome!!!!! Hopefully he'll get to come home before he goes. My sailor was home for a month before going. It was awesome. Mine took his passport with. There have been other discussions about them needing it or not. When traveling with the Navy they have orders or use their military id. I was in Japan in November and when I had to show my passport he could use his id. He did use his passport when he came home on leave.
The weather right now isn't too cold. But summer gets hot and humid.
For the most part my sailor likes Japan too. They hop on the train and go random places all the time. And the places they go when deployed. Very cool.
Holler if you need anything!!!!!!!!!!!!! or just need some reassurance. ;)
Mike's Mom, I have only spoken to my son a couple times as well. You know he got there just a little bit after yours. He doesn't tell me very much. We usually chat on FB some, but I meant to tell you a couple of weeks ago that he told me he thinks your son is funny. He must enjoy his humor. Maybe they are hanging out some.
