LisaSophia - a mixed bag of feelings is a good way to put it. My sailor has been there 1 1/2 years. It's gotten easier, but it's still difficult. Others just don't understand it.
Thank you for the welcome ladies. My son's origin report date was for 1/21/2013 but he hasn't finished processing. Hopefully he will have an opportunity to come home for a visit before he has to report (has be on hold since graduating from A school in October). I haven't seen him since bootcamp graduation and well, I just miss my kid! I'm super excited for him though. Kind of a mixed bag of feelings!
Hey momfromTx! Welcome!!!!! I would go crazy without Skype. I was a nervous wreck when he left for Japan, but was SO glad to be able to see his face when he got there. I don't know how parents handled it before. I can't imagine him going there and not even getting a letter until a month later. Ugh...... Thank God for technology!!!!!!!
Son has been in Yokosuka for 2 weeks almost. Have seen a picture of him on FB on deck in his coveralls. Also recieved a skype call at 4:00am (he didn't figure on the time zone changes) All-in-all, I am relieved he is so far away but still able to be in touch. He loves it so far. Says there is a lot for them to do for fun on the base. (bowling, etc) Has been very busy though. Started working/watches as soon as he got there. I was so worrried about travel and what all needed to be packed vs left behind. Now he is there I am just proud and happy for him.
my son is graduating next week from C school with E4 status. Kathy, he does not have dual citizenship because he was born on yokosuka it is just considered us soil, he does have a report of birth abroad (on us soil) so he can become president! :) I know they are sitting down with his Chief this summer when the girlfriend flies to Japan for 2 weeks to see him. I am pretty sure that marriage is a state thing and has to happen here, then get her sponsership, so maybe by christmas he can come home and they can get married and she can fly back with him? I lived out in town for 2 years then on yokosuka for 2 years on base when i was stationed there. dependents can work, as long as they are dependents.
Good afternoon all. My son just received his orders and will be based in Yokosuka. Looking forward to getting to know you all and leaning on you for advice!
Idahojeep - Yay for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy your time. =)
#1 asked for leave but it was denied. There was a recall of all Fitz staff not on leave posted on FB page. Hopefully he will get to come home some time soon.
Woo Hoo #2 son arrived home on Monday! We are having a grand time and it is so good to see him! He is here for a few weeks. I did leave the Christmas tree up so he could see it. But time to take it down now. Hope all of you had a wonderful holiday time and Happy New Year to everyone!
