Of course I've also been sending homemade goodies as well. According to my husband (Navy 1977 - 1982) those homemade touches mean a lot more than a gift.
I think I will send my son a NEX gift card. Easy to send and no worries about whether he has enough space for it.
Thanks Cheryl for the question, I am trying to get help in that aspect to been looking all over and can't seem to get any information.
Anyone have some good gift ideas for my daughter. She's just got there a few weeks ago and is living on the barge so not much space for stuff and no food allowed. I was thinking about gift cards for the businesses on base, but I don't know what is there. Any help would be appreciated.
If you have a layover somewhere contact the USO. They help family of military and have stuff for kids too. Good Luck!
Sue- So they must have a kitchen in there rooms in the barracks? My son likes to cook so he will be happy. I am sure he will make friends quickly once he makes his jalapeno cheese bread. When we lived in Hawaii the neighbors would pay him to make them some.
Thanks all - got a message from my son this morning - was hoping to skype but he was heading to bed. Think 7am our time (9 pm his time) will probably work - depending on his work schedule. He is starting his job tomorrow and am anxious to hear about it. He hopes to get a new phone within a week or so - will make sure he knows to check apps.
Annev- Glad to hear the barracks are great. As my son will be in them also. I read the program KIK was a free way to text.
heard from our son last night - he said he was in barracks and they were great, Also said roommate was great. Not sure if permanent or not. He did say that although he has an iphone, he will probably get a new phone there. Does anyone know how the ones they get there work? Can they call home on them pretty cheaply? What about texting? I told him to make sure and check out data plans, talk minutes and texting. Anxious to be able to skype and ask him lots of questions - waiting on him to give us a time he will be available! So good to hear he thinks things are great!
