Annev- I think for shore duty they start out on the barge which is the temp housing and the housing the sailors use when they are not on the ship. Once they finish there indoc and what ever else they have them do there is bachelor housing for the ones that have shore duty. I am not sure how long they stay in the barge housing. Once they are either e4 or e5 then they can live off base but I am told it's expensive and they need roommates. I also know that during indoc they show them around and how to use all the public transportation.
If I am wrong someone please correct me.
Hi all - I'm new to this group. My son is on a flight for Japan now. He just completed Corpsmen A school and will work in the hospital in Yokosuka. Anxious to find out more - how things work on base - phones, whether he will be on base or off, etc. There are 5 of them from his class going together to work in the hospital - one his roommate, so at least they can help each other out!
hahaha good one kathy! i told him to double-check to make sure he didn't misunderstand. if that were the case, he could've just stayed home for a few more weeks!
He said the indoc would start around the 20th and he was just checking out the base and town in the mean time. I'll have to check into the phone and find out. He's pretty satisfied so far though. There are four other young men there who went to either boot camp or in his A-school with him so he knows people which is good.
Harry made it to Yokosuka. he said he is free until the 20th when he starts his in-processing. that seems like alot of time but i'm not the boss any more (haha). unfortunately he's going through his money like it's water!! he's sent me a couple of txt messages and gave me his new cell phone number. i don't know if i can call it locally or if it's considered international. it reads like a regular USA number complete with a Ft Worth area code. he also said he won't have an address until after the 20th. Thanks to all of you
