I just called my post office and he said he did not have the FPO/APO boxes, but if the TO: address is an FPO or APO address then they will honor the $12.95 for the large priority boxes.

Hmmm...I was told by my post office they do not make the FPO/APO boxes anymore. I will have to have a talk with them.

to be clear: the PO were charging me the correct rate for priority, just didn't let me know I had a less expensive option of military box and rate. I'd like to think its because not many in my area send care packages, but you can bet I'll getting the word out by having everyone send packages to Japan and the ME at this time!

Blondie

I felt stupid to ask, but they weren't out like the prioritymail which I use, the FPO/APO boxes were in the back. When she went and got me those, I felt even more ignorant. And they know me and know I send to the military all the time!

The prices have changed so much, but I think the latest was $14.95. I always laugh when they ask me about insurance or tracking. I tell them the best insurance is getting the package in the hands of the Navy, they'll make sure it arrives!

on care packages--I've been going to the PO forever and yesterday they finally brought out the special military large box for $12.50. What? How long have they had these!!!?

My son gets his in a week unless he's out to sea. Then it can be a month. I ordered Christmas presents from Amazon which was post and it took over a month. So....I don't know what to say about this, except it always gets found by the ship--which is his address. He tells me just to hold on, it will arrive and I will feel better.

Ang, I send my boxes through the UPS Store. Do you send yours through the Post Office? I can"t beleive that there would be that much of a time issue. Please let me know. Thanks

Blondi, How is it you say packages arrive in 3-5 days? When I send one it takes a good 3 weeks plus to get there. They will all be very happy campers when they finally get their boxes! It will be like Christmas!! Ha Ha!

Thank you everyone for the great information. You have all made me feel much better about the situation over there.

Hi Heidi, Heidi, and Rosiemo!

My son is not on a ship, but I don't know if he is associated with a ship. He stays at the base. He is in the Tech area. My son left early January and will be there 3 years as well. I am glad the packages are still ariving so they have some form of contact with us. Do you know how long it takes for the packages to get to Japan? I am assuming 3 to 5 days.

Thank you for your replies.

Welcome Lori, I am new to this to and the other Heidi has been a great support to me as well as everyone else. Is your son on the USS McCAMPBELL? My son just left for Japan on Dec.1st and he will be there for 3 years. I send boxes all the time and they usually take 3 weeks and longer to get to him. I doubt they will get any box sent until they arrive back to the base.(I don"t know). Anyway Welcome...Navy Moms has been a great support to me hope you find it the same for you.    Heidi
