Bubsmom - oh ok.. well my fiance is a GSM3 so they're paths might cross. It's a small ship.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. The GW wasn't here but most of the small ships were.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and will be praying for all the military sons and daughters today especially the 7th fleet.

My prayer list grows longer - will be praying for all.

Susie, how fortunate you are to hold, hug and just look at your son - enjoy!

Blondie - nice graphic. I'm trying to learn how - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

DualM - sorry, I'm an idiot, my son's rate is seaman - still learning.

May the Lord bless, comfort and hold each and everyone of you this Thanksgiving.

And remember, calories don't count on Thanksgiving or Christmas - enjoy! :0)

Blondie - thank you so much for your prayers, they are much appreciated! I heard he arrived safely.

DualM - he is undesignated and am waiting to hear.

bubsmom, my fiance will report to the Fitz this Friday. What's your son's rate?

I just wanted to say hello and let you know my son is leaving for the Fitzgerald tomorrow. Of course, w/the time change, he won't arrive until Tuesday!

Blondie, will keep her in my prayers. It is SO hard, when we know they are "down" and we are SO far away :(

Hi All,
I'm baaaaaaaaaack, as the saying goes. I'm SO glad I made the trip, even though it was rushed and short, it was definietly worth it. Of course the GW had cancelled their F&F cruise, but Kelcie was able to give me a quick tour. I was amazed!!! Don't know how these kids EVER find their way around on that thing!! The base is HUGE, especially compared to Kelcie's last station. Blondie and Jane, they have plenty of shopping, but you can't go in the main commissary at all, so you will have to make up shopping lists for your sailor. Taxi cabs or walking are pretty much the only means of transportation, unless your sailor is an E5 or above and has a car. I stayed at Navy Lodge, got the room with the kitchenette. It was $70.00 a night for a room with 2 queen beds. The kitchenette had a microwave, MINI fridge, and a two burner cook top. Plates, cups silverware etc for 4. Small sink, 3 pans of different sizes and 3 glass storage bowls with lids, however, the fridge is SO small. I wound up buying some zip lock bags to store leftover food. I think you might be able to get a larger kitchenette room that DOES have an oven for only $5.00 more a night. You might want to look into it if you plan on cooking very much. I cook two dinners while I was there. Take any "special" ingredients that you might need. Can't say for sure what was available in the commissary, since I could not go in, but it's VERY large, so I'm sure that most things are available. You CAN go in the NEX, which has some groceries, and there is a mini mart/gas station right next to Navy Lodge that offers a limited (but to be expected) number of items. Enough for now. You ladies will NEVER regret going. I sure didn't!!!

I'm glad you had a great time one the Fitz. My fiance will be reporting there in 2 weeks. He visited last week and said he immediately liked it. Said it was better than our ship right now.
