Susie, a MAJOR reason for the surprise visit is that she isn't going to be able to come home for Christmas :-( SO glad Gabe and your other son will both be able to be there together!! Don't believe that Kelcie has had to deal with much seasickness. I think only once during really wild seas she mentioned it. Blondie, the GWfrg just posted their "registration" form for the cruise online, I'm gonna check it out. Kelcie is talking about living off base for the 6 months or so before next years cruise. I'll have to let her know about dealing with getting back and forth in the rain and wind. I'm sure she hasn't thought of that.

Yeah Blondie, it's been pretty quiet here lately. I may well be making a trip to Yokosuka in just over a month. My daughter's boyfriend wants me to come over for the Family and Friends cruise, and surprise her for her birthday. Have spoken with the Navy Lodge, but can't book there until 30 days in advance. Have my passport applied for, and am now watching ticket prices.

Sara.....I think the "empty nest" is hard on everyone, but with them in the military, there is definitely an added element of concern on our part :( But like everyone before me said...........it DOES get better with time. You might want to take a look at the "Molly's Adopt a Sailor" group. It is a great way to feel like you are still needed and can contribute to not only your sailors happiness, but also to lots of other kids. I know that until my sailor mentioned it, I just tended to assume that all sailors had parents like us, that cared deeply, but she told me that there are a ton of kids who enlisted in order to escape a really bad home life, and they really don't have any support. Molly's group can really help fill that void. It sure did help me out. :>)

Thank you ladies. I seem to be crying more this time than the last time he left. Being an IT he said he will always have access to a computer/e-mail but right now it just hurts. He's my only child and I'm single so the house is empty now. I know it will get better soon but right now, not so good...

My son just finished packing for his flight to Yokosuka. We'll be heading out to the airport in about an hour. I feel kinda like I did when he went to boot camp... Empty.

Hi Susie
Congrats to your Son!!
You need to talk to Kathy C. Danielle's mom , her daughter is in the 7th fleet band and can give ya lots of good info.
We also have a USS Blue Ridge Group, which is the ship that the band travels with so look us up!!!

Christine, Jason will be leaving Ohio on Sep. 17 to fly to Japan. He's really looking forward to it. He is an IT. What is your sons rate?

Blondie, does she leave her air conditioner on when she is gone? My son says he leaves everything on and he hasn't had any mold but he does get the spiders.

Blondie, I can only imagine. I grew up in Hawaii, and the bugs were awful. My mom used to COAT everything with Spectricide (which was banned years later) to keep the bugs at bay. She used it in her mop water and everything else!! I would imagine that the climate in Japan is similar. Don't know what is out there on the market these days to combat critters, but with them being gone on deployments, I imagine they could easily come home to a TOTAL infestation. :(
