For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Be sure not to their phones when they get home because of roaming is VERY EXPENSIVE! My son found that out when he came for leave during Thanksgiving. Change service. I have this year and next year PUPLEGIRAFFE69. Enjoy!
My son is on his way home from 3 years in Yokosuka (he was not on a ship) He lands at 1:15pm today!!! woo woo!!! He had wifi in his barracks and yes he got a phone in Japan. He will get a new phone here in the states. We used FB messenger all the time and you can even do a phone call on messenger. We did skype sometimes. He is heading to NCIS Quantico Virigina after leave, this mom in SC is happy!!!!
Peggy, We have done two options. My sailor daughter bought a japanese Iphone and so can text or talk to her sister who also has Iphone. or call through face book messenger which is what I do with her. You can set up facebook messenger on iphone or tablet/ipad and use it as a phone, it works well for me but Im sure there are ways to get your phone working. Maybe call Verizon for support.
My son recently arrived in Yokosuka on the Reagan. He had canceled his Verizon phone service before he left the states because he was told how much cheaper it is in Japan. So, he got phone service there now...but he can't even set up his voicemail because everything is in Japanese! Not sure what to do next...I try calling him (I signed up for the int'l package, have the access and country code and the number he sent...but nothing goes through). He has only been able to communicate through FB and Email. Ugh!
jpickatrini also get the information on his ship's Ombudsman. Here is a quote from my sailor's ship webpage An "Ombudsman are here to assist Navy families. Ombudsman act as a liaison between the command and families, and communicate information about command and community resources to families. Your questions, comments, complaints, concerns, etc. will all be held in the strictest confidence"

Hi, Can someone direct me to info on the procedure for contacting my sailor regarding a death in the family. I know it is through the Red Cross, but can someone tell me how to do it. I have been emailing her but ...hasn't happened yet, but her Grandfather is in hospice. ??? Thank you in advance.
