Fran, take a deep breath and relax. Your sailor does not have to have a passport right off. They will be traveling on their orders which lets them travel on military business without the passport. If your sailor wants to leave the Island on vacation, then they will need a regular passport, which can be obtained from the Consulate in Tokyo.

Also, your sailor can get Yen at most International Airports exchange banks. I only recomment getting a few hundred Yen there as the exchange rate is horrible. Once on the base your sailor can use a bank card and get more out.

I hope your sailors sponsor does meet her at the airport, but if not, there is a sign at the luggage area stating the arrival/departure times for the bases. Make sure they check in as soon as they find it. The bus runs three times a day.

She will need her Birth Certificate for a pass port.

Hope this helps a bit.

Yes it will be. I was surprised to hear about the Typhoons and Tsunamis, I knew they had earthquakes. Katie's hubby Matt who is shore duty there in Yokosuka said this last Typhoon that went through last week wasn't too bad lot's of wind but not much damage done. She's underway right now and was really worried about him being in Yokosuka, but things were OK.

When Katie first got there a year ago they were having Typhoon warnings, she called home I said you mean I have to worry about Earthquakes & Typhoons she said yes and Tsunamis, I was like ohh great. We always only had earthquakes in CA. but they have lots of stuff in Japan. But she loves it there!!

How exciting for him - getting to shake hands with SECNav. and for you to see the picture. I got to see one of my son on the FB group, USS BLue RIdge and navy.mil. doing his job. We hate to brag, don't we? I'll PM you.

Janis, I saw those pictures in Buscan, is James the one shaking hands with the SECNAV?
Comment by CCR on September 23, 2009 at 7:12am
Janis, there is a USS Blue Ridge group here also. Be sure to join that group. Maybe some moms can help. Does he have FB? My son has a military e-mail where I can get a response back from him within a day or two. Does he have a lap top with him?
