Connie, he has to be there June 29th (I think) so he is really busy now trying to get everything done in a short period of time.

imagine my surprise when my son called tonight and I pronounced Yokosuka like yoko (yoko ono, married to John Lennon) and suka like Sue Kuh.
He laughed and said it real fast, and I said, HUH?

Wish I knew what part of TX she was coming to. I'm in DET. 1/2 way between Tyler and Houston.

Hi, I was told to come to this page by a very warm and knowledgable Navy Mom. My son got his orders for Japan, and we are pretty sure he will be aboard the Blue RIdge. He's an FC and will be a Petty Officer in August. I am going to his C school graduation in San Diego June 30 -July 6.

Welcome Kathy, our son was born in Yokosuka and we had the chance to live their for five years and loved it. Our son is still in school and has not received his orders yet, his rate is FC and their schooling is long. He graduated from boot camp over a year ago but he will be in C school in Dahlgren, VA for awhile yet. I so hope that he doesn't hate seaduty like your Eric did - they have a long rotation from sea to shore duty and if they hate being out to sea...sigh.

Ladies, want to wish each of you a wonderful Memorial Day. Our is going to be very sweet, our daughter is home from college for the summer and our Sailor will be arriving TODAY! He took leave for the weekend so we go from no kids to both kids!!! We have not seen Nick since Christmas and I suspect this will be his last trip home before he gets his orders to a ship. I'll be quiet the next few days but hope your holiday is good!

Linda, I was named after my grandma so no choice in the matter :-)

My girlfriend told me she just read that mixing Listerine with water and spraying down the porch, deck, etc. is supposed to do a great job of keeping those secitos at bay - not sure if she is trying it this weekend or not but we will keep you posted if it helps chase those nasty little bugs away.

Good luck at the polls today, I was watching that on the news this morning...yikes. We used to live in Vallejo and at that time I think the sales tax was 8% and it was almost 20 years ago - beautiful state IF you can afford to live there!

Hi Connie and Linda - seen the new group and thought I'd stop by. Our son was born in Yokosuka during my hubby Navy days. We LOVED it there and would go back in a heartbeat. In fact, we have some former Navy friends that retired from the Navy and stayed in Yokosuka - they are working on the base in governnment positions. Our son is hoping to get orders there one day but he is still in C school at the moment.

Don't know if you realize or not - there is a Japan Moms group on the site with a lot of members but...it does cover every area of Japan not just Yokosuka.

With your son heading there soon Connie - all I can say is, he should have a fabulous experience. The people and the culture is very inviting. I would tell him to take a great camera BUT you can buy the latest and greatest electronics on the base and pay no sales tax so he can get one there. The MWR on base provides a great service to set up tours, etc. at discounts for the military and their families and there seems to be a never ending calendar of festivals and events for the public to enjoy. He will truly treasure his time there. What ship is he going to be attached to?
