Nicole, definitely ask your recruiters about DEP's PQS program, an opportunity to enlist at a higher pay grade.

well, things just so happened to work in my favor. i was originially supposed to be in the DEP program for 6 months, i only spent 3 weeks.
But yes, definitely use this time to prepare yourself. and not just physically. memorize the sailors creed and the 11 general orders before you go, and you will be -golden-

Thanks for the info! It was kinda confusing to me, because I have a feeling i'll be DEP for a little while, because it seems like everyone going through our recruiting station is, but oh well, just more time to get in shape(:

I wasnt in DEP for very long. But at my recruiting station, we had weekly DEP meetings and PT sessions. other than that, you went about your daily life. From my understanding, if you're under the age of 18 and want to sign anything, you must also have a signiture from a parent or guardian. you do now, however, have to be 18 to go to boot camp. you can be 17 and ship out, as long as you have a diploma or GED and that oh so important signiture

Who, I have another question for you- How was DEP for you?
Do you just go about your daily life until you ship out?

I graduate next year, and i'll be 17 next december, so I want to enlist if possible, but be DEP until I can leave at 18..is that possible? Or do I need parent signiture to enlist at 17 at all? Even if I am DEP?....Does that make sense? Lol

it really wasnt, and he will meet so many new people and probably make friendships that last a lifetime. the cold was my biggest enemy haha

He will be on hold, and he'll probably hate it. i know i did, but really its not that bad in retrospect. He'll have duty every 4 days and the other days he'll be put on "working parties". Lots of cleaning in the mornings. Not all working parties are bad, i actually helped set up for a halloween party once. the evenings are his to do as he pleases for the most part. must be back by 9, 2100, though. at least thats how it was for me.
and welcome to the group =]

T'Mom,
A school was full of being on a wait list, or as its called in great lakes, being on hold. I got to my new base Sept 1st. then waited a month to start a 12 day class that turns out the navy got rid of anyway, i was the class to go through. Then finished that and when on hold again til almost november. then started A school, graduated and still didnt have orders. back on hold again.
Yes, you stay at a barracks and have roommates. hopefullly she is as lucky as i was and gets awesome roommates. My roommates and i are all over the world right now, but we still talk on a regular basis.
I cant say much about my ships schedule on here, but ive been out to sea numerous times. Been to the Bahamas, Rhode Island, Boston, Mayport Fl....i love it
