Any questions regarding DEP, boot camp, A school or in between can hopefully be answered here. I myself was in boot camp from June-August of '09 and am now stationed in Norfolk, Va. This site helped my mother so much, its my time to return the favor.

yes, each division is ran dramatically different. 6 weeks is a while though, thats probably just a scare tactic. i wouldnt be surprised if you heard from him before then.
and yes, you can smell it from the nex haha. Tums and all other medications/prescriptions have to be obtained at sick call. Unless you are talking about for you or somoeone on liberty weekend, in which case, yes i believe you can

Oh now I get it it is there tempting you, but can't eat there until after PIR....that is almost cruel and unusual because I bet they can smell it when they go to the NEX. Can they buy tums at the NEX??
Comment by Lynne on September 16, 2010 at 2:13am
There is a taco bell and a kfc at the nex at boot camp....are you kidding me??? some mom got a call from her son "just to chat" who had been at boot camp for less than a week and I haven't heard in two weeks. The RDC's told my son's division that it would be six weeks before they got a call...I am so jealous....what I wouldn't do to hear his voice.

there were bad apples in my boyfriends division too..but they really do pull together when it comes down to it, they want outta there as much as we want them outta there.

yea apparently there are a few "bad apples" one mom got in a letter from her son from the same division that my boyfriend is in!! i'm like oh great. i'm worried they are going to spoil it for the rest of us :(

sailorgirl10 - they get really busy, it's not unusual, it's all based on their division, if someone gets in trouble they can get privilidges taken away, or may be too busy, or RDC'S could be rather strict. don't worry, hang tight.

yes i'm worried because my boyfriends been writing me regularly and this week nothing and other than the call i received when he first got to boot camp early aug. and then two weeks ago which i missed no other calls. i'm hoping he calls at least once more before battlestations. my gf got about 4 calls from her fiancee while he was in boot camp. i'm like lucky. and my bf worked hard to earn that phone call. is it unusual that he hasn't called again ? :( i've been down a lot lately.

SO, your destroyer is there in VA... will it go back out again soon? Or what? hahaha I don't know too much about this! When you went to A school, did you have to wait for it to start? If so, were you in a place with other kids waiting too? I ask because T's A school has a long wait and was hoping she will make some friends while waiting.
Comment by Who on September 15, 2010 at 7:51pm
yup, its there...just cant eat til liberty weekend haha. No news is good news as the saying goes. if you dont get a call or a letter, consider her to be doing very well and quite busy.
I am living at an apartment here in Norfolk, but its military housing about 5 miles from base. i like it a lot. I am on the USS Truxtun, a guided missile destroyer.
