Any questions regarding DEP, boot camp, A school or in between can hopefully be answered here. I myself was in boot camp from June-August of '09 and am now stationed in Norfolk, Va. This site helped my mother so much, its my time to return the favor.

i believe my initial PFA was in week 1, but schedules can vary greatly. week 4 is the big feat, everything seems to happen in thay week and i had my 2nd PFA that week as well. They should be "working" with her to improve her run times. they really dont want to see their divisions get set back. during this time though, she needs to keep her spirits up and work harder than ever. dont let her get discouraged.

so do you think that was her first practice run, on the 3rd week?

Charlee, i am very glad that you have been able to communicate with your daughter. shes half way done. =] well through out the course of boot camp, you take three total PFA (physical fitness assessments) the first two are, in essence, practice runs. the final one dictates if you graduate on time.
I'd have to say that every division is different, mine ran every day aside from other scheduled PT events. Tell her that when her division does BASES to take some time and run the track.

Hello, Who! What a wonderful thing I have come across! My daughter left August 18, so been gone 1 month today. I have spoken to her twice, she called after 1 week, and then I talked to her last week. She said she has passed her swimming test, but not the running, but said last Friday, they hadn't ran in 1 week. Why would that be the case? Is there any chance she will not pass this test, and will the running pick up soon, so she will get her time. She wasn't in the best of shape when she left, even though she had 6 months to prepare...

Lala Ribbon Queen,
I was a little nervous as well, i am originally from california so naturally being told i was moving to virginia was a bit scary, but it has all worked out. i actually have a friend of mine, from boot camp, who is here and is an AO. i could easily get some information as far as classing up from her and get back to you. I believe she is stationed on an aircraft carrier out here, the roosevelt to be exact.

Hi Who, It is great to see a young female sailor on here who has advice to give. I will make sure my daughter joins your group as well. She is currently in A-school (Pensacola), Graduates in a week. She will get to come home for a visit and then heads to Oceania. She is an AO and is very happy with her decision to join the Navy. I am sure she is a little nervous about going to a new place that she has never been before. She was very familiar with Pensacola, we have vacationed there every year since she was a baby. But she is looking forward to all the adventures she will have. Her fiancee is currently in GL at boot camp. They met in DEP lol. Do you know how long it takes to class up for AO in Oceania?

Since transferring to my ship here in Norfolk, i have been presented with more opportunites. I have been told that there is a "navy out there for everyone" i dont think she'll be disappointed.

You are such a blessing and I love you attitude..... my little one was 29 when she entered and although she scored REALLY high on her ASVAB, there were not so many things she could do -- she was too old. Love That -- being too old at 29, *sigh*. I just hope she has as many choices as you seem to have when she needs some.
