I found one at target for military - thought that would be awesome to send. Got one to send from the dog and then decided to go to the Dollar Tree - got 2 cards for a 1.00 (one was a valentine..) Will use these to supplement my letters- don't want to overwhelm the poor kid.. His dad is writing too. And still nothing from the SR. UGH!
good thinking mommas!! have to admit that I have almost every text from my son from the day he went to MEPS for the ASVAB through last month...just about 2 years worth...have started transferring them into a scrapbook of sorts...with calls and texts-I try and write everything down when he calls because I want to talk with him-if I need to research something later on so when he calls I know what the heck he is talking about!!!
tdcowgirl- great minds think alike. I did the same thing- wrote a letter for his wallet and put several motivational quotes in it and told him how proud I was and how much he was loved. Told him to read on plane and whenever he needed his mom. He sent me a heartfelt text before he got to base and I have saved it to look when I need to be close to him.
Also I have found what I think are excellent brief statements of encouragement for stepping out of your comfort zone, personal growth, and just reminders about staying strong through what ever it is that you might find challenging in you life from former motivational speaker Zig Ziglar. Yes, he is also a religious speaker as well BUT, you don't have to be religious to find truth and motivation in this quotes. I include at least one on each of the letters I have written to my son so far ;) I also used several of the quotes to put together a small note I had him put in his wallet prior to leaving and made him promise to read it everyday as well as anytime he was feeling doubt, fear, or just wanted to hear his momma's words nagging at him. He cried everytime he read it to anyone he told about it. Because it let him know that we support him and all the changes & challenges he will be conquering in the next 9 weeks and even beyond that.
oh fun Sugrnspicy!! yup things to bring a smile after a rough day are good for them...mine got lots of Calvin and Hobbes cartoons printed on the tops of his letters-could always seem to find one that had some relevance...
and remember that some of you will get great long detailed letters and others not so much-my son wrote me 2 letters but also had aunts and grams to write to...
Hi BeachBunny! Yes, got the form letter. His PIR is March 28th. Sooo looking forward to it and getting some quality time with my boy. :)
For sh*#ts and giggles....My SR has always hated clowns....so, we are all sending him pics of ugly clowns LOL I wish I could see his face, as he opens his letters. Now, he'll be wondering, with each letter if there's another clown pic in there. LOL We just had to do it.
Awesome, tdcowgirl, you got the form letter, when's PIR??
Got my sons address today! I already has his letter ready. I have been shopping through all of the "thinking of you" & other general supportive type cards at the varies stores I frequent and these are what I am writing my letters to him in! I have also included pre-addressed and stamped post cards to family members I know will be writing him and looking forward to a response so that he can jot down a quick "Hi, I'm doing fine" paragraph to them without a lot of added time of effort (my son is NOT a writer (lol)). I'm hoping between these efforts PLUS the stamps and the phone card I included in his wallet he will get the point ;)
