Mineman Moms

My son arrived at RTC on 11/15/11.  His current contract has him as a Mineman and I am looking to see if there are any other Mineman Moms out there that have sons/daughters who are going in or have just arrived!  Mineman is such a small community that it is hard to gather information about the rate, and would like to hear stories or talk about what our children are doing!

Hi, Esther! Welcome! The time in BC will go faster than you think. I understand your feeling proud of your son. When I dropped him off for BC, I hugged him and told him to remember, every day, that I love him and I'm proud of him.

I am still wondering why he decided on a minesweeper? His first mentioned EOD I thought Hurt Locker. I am concerned about his decisions and as his deployment date gets closer I am getting more nervous.

GloriaC- Thank you for all the information. I didn't even know that they went to C school or additional training. That makes me a happy mom, means he will be in the states longer. And more time for me to visit with him :) I think these recruiters need to take a class every now and then to keep up with new information. If it wasn't for you  guys I'd have no idea what's going on. Thank You

Only 7 more days until I get to see him for Xmas! I feel so blessed we were picked to do the adopt a sailor program. Just praying for good weather, his dad and I are driving from NJ.

Has anyone decided to make your own ribbons (blue/yellow)? My son is visiting for the holidays and I am confused on which color to use. I was almost certain YELLOW but isn't it for DEPLOYMENT?

Alice-

Mineman A school hasn't been in Tx for 2-3 years. My son had PIR on nov 2, 2012. Then he moved over to th main base at GL and stayed there until early Feb for ATT (advanced technical training). After that, he went to San Diego for A school, C school and additional training. He just left for Bahrain. There is a lot of training before the are actually sent anywhere. Hope this is helpful!  PS My son's recruiter gave him all sorts of wrong info. You aren't alone there!

Any Mineman mommy's in Houston, TX?

Comment by MADre on December 17, 2013 at 5:38pm

Hi alice. My son mentioned 18 moths in Bahrain but not sure if he will be returning to Sand Diego. He sounds very excited to travel but as all moms we worry no matter how close or far they are. Enjoy your visit with yours after BC- Boot Camp!!
