Mineman Moms

My son arrived at RTC on 11/15/11.  His current contract has him as a Mineman and I am looking to see if there are any other Mineman Moms out there that have sons/daughters who are going in or have just arrived!  Mineman is such a small community that it is hard to gather information about the rate, and would like to hear stories or talk about what our children are doing!

SailorRp01...My SR has a PIR date of 9/13 and will be staying in GL for his ATT and then on to San Diego for his A School...what ship/div is your SR in?

My son is I'm bc now also with PIR 9-13. He was told he was going to Texas for A school, for Mn. How would the recruiter not know this information?

My SR is in BC right now and PIR is scheduled for 8-23. He'll obviously stay back at GL for ATT school before heading to San Diego for A school. He will be a MN. We are really excited at the rate he chose. We feel it'll be great fit for him. And he will get the best of both worlds that the Navy has to offer.

Hi Paige,

There is no C school for Mineman rating.  They have ATT school right after PIR, which lasts about 2 months and is at Great Lakes, across the street from BC.  After that, they go to California for A school, which is approx. 3 months.  Also, tack on any amount of time they may be on hold to get into each of those schools, since they only put so many people through at a time.  My son was on hold for ATT for about a week and a half.  He has been in California for about 3 weeks and is still on hold, hoping to start ATT in a couple weeks.

Thank you so much for all of this information! I really appreciate having someone who knows kind of what's going on. Seems like it's hard to find anything about any of this sometimes!

We got to spend quite a bit of time with him:)  On Friday, after PIR, they get to spend a little time with us on Base (we went to the NEX).  Then they have to go back to their barracks and move all of their stuff to their new barracks.  You will be able to pick up your fiance around 3PM (a good place to meet up is at the museum because he will know to come find you there and you have a warm place to wait).  He will have to be back by a certain time each night (probably 10PM.Better to be back early than late!)  You can pick him up early in the morning and do it all over again on Saturday and Sunday:)

Xraylady-

Since they stay in Great Lakes to start off how much time did you get to spend with your son during PIR weekend?
Comment by xraylady Ship 12 Div 071 on March 21, 2013 at 7:08am

Hi Paige,

Correct, they have not gone to Texas for awhile.  My son was told the same thing and we found out later that was not correct.

The ATT school at Great Lakes is approx. 8 weeks.  Sometimes they are on hold and don't start right away.

The A school in San Diego is about 11 weeks.  Again, they may be on hold before starting classes.
