Mineman Moms

My son arrived at RTC on 11/15/11.  His current contract has him as a Mineman and I am looking to see if there are any other Mineman Moms out there that have sons/daughters who are going in or have just arrived!  Mineman is such a small community that it is hard to gather information about the rate, and would like to hear stories or talk about what our children are doing!

Hi My fiance is currently in Boot camp but enlisted as a mineman. From reading all of these comments it look like he stays in Great Lakes for 6-12 weeks? and then goes to San Diego for A school? is this information correct? We were under the impression that he was going to Texas but found out that the base he was headed too has been closed.

My son is currently at GL finishing his ATT school (he graduates on the 20th of this month).  He will then go on to CA.  Sometimes they are on hold before they can begin ATT.  He was on hold for about a week.

My son just made it to GL February 28th & has a job a Mineman after BC, my understanding is that he will leave the day after PIR headed to San Diego for his A school which is 11 weeks, I have not heard about the 6-12 week self-paced training, have you heard anything else about this, xraylady Ship 12 Div 071?

My son was told by his recruiter that his Mineman A schooling would be in Texas, but I have since found out that is not true. It sounds like they have a self-paced training at GL after PIR for 6-12 weeks and then go on to CA for A school for about 11 weeks. Is this true, you moms who have been through this?

Our son is on a MCM Crew in Bahrain. He is a new officer having graduated from NROTC in May '12. He has been over there for a month and very much likes his Crew and the mine men community in general seem to be a close knit group!

What can y'all tell me about being a MN? Where is the training and how long for? How long for deployment? My bf just DOR'ed from SWCC yesterday and is now talking about becoming a MN. I was just starting to understand the SWCC world, and now I may be jumping into the MN world instead. Any info?

Oh, I am deactivated on fb for now (I am an addict with it), but the page is called Navy Minemen. Congratulations to you and your Sailor!!! Such an exciting time, SO happy for you both. :)

It's hard to find anything isn't it?? There is a mineman group on here that hasn't had any comments in 2 YEARS. It seems they have the mn ratings grouped together there. I'll message you his name (I don't know if we should put their names out in the open pages) so you can ask yours if they know each other. He calls home regularly (he's sweet and knows I miss him :) and told me they just got a few more in last week. I'm so happy to find another mom too!

Hi Shelli

My son graduated last Friday, is at GL now for ATT school.  Do you have the link to the Navy Mineman page, I am a friend of a Group on FB.  There are not many Mineman families out there, been looking for months...lol Thanks for finding this page!!

Hello KensMoM, My son PIR'd Dec. 13 but is still at GL for a few weeks before he goes on to San Diego. There is a Navy Mineman page on FB in case you haven't found it as of yet. What is going on with your son? Has he PIR'd yet?
