Thank you so much . It def makes its easier when I can connect with others. So your son had almost a month between BC and Dive Prep?what do they do in the meantime?
ttmd001 Our son graduated BC on 7Feb14 and will start Dive Prep on 3 March. Yes, we've also heard that this course is very challenging and supposedly only 50% of attendees make it through and go on to "A" School in FL. They work out daily and swim daily as well so they are in the best shape of their lives then the class commences.
You will start getting a few more letters after the first 3 wks of BC have been completed. The Recruits earn the right to call home, but when they do, it's usually on a Saturday morning. Throughout BC you may get (at most) 3-4 calls, the last one is after they successfully pass their last 3 tests and Battle Stations - then they call you and say, "Hi Mom - I'm officially a US Sailor now" - a very proud and emotional moment. The "no new is good news" policy is a good one to adhere to while they are in BC or you will drive yourself nutty waiting for letters and calls. Writing them often is good for both of you - it helps you feel closer to the child you are missing, and it makes your sailor so very happy when they get your letters at mail call, plus it makes the time apart go much faster for both of you.
Hang in there - Navy For Moms is a great website to get your questions answered and help keep your emotions in check. The Moms are so very supportive and the daily check-in and conversations make the 2 months go by much more quickly. Before you know it, you'll be packing and getting ready for PIR - a very exciting time! Best of luck to your son and you, too.
Our son left for basic training on 2/3/2014 he graduates on March 28th I rec. 2 letters from him today in which he says keep writing every day.I missed his first call home I happen to be out and was so dissapointed. tears were def. shed on my part .hopefully to hear from him again soon.I hear Dive Prep after basics is very challenging.
Hi DaphneB: I just now read your comment - sorry I didn't see it sooner. There is an 807 Div Group that you may want to join - it has an awesome group of moms/wives whose sons/husbands PIR is 7Feb14. They really have been a great source of info and support while our son is away at BC. I'll send you a friend request.
