Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

I remember walking thru the mall in Pcola with my sailor, it was full of Navy and Marines( they have to wear uniforms)...sailors were told in INDOC class to be aware of scams at the mall and that contracts of buying large items need to be approved by the Navy...hopefully sailors learn the art of saying "No" and protecting their credit early.....I have power of attorney for my sailor to "monitor" any problems that occur while he at sea...which seems like every couple of months the bank is calling to verify his charges in different countries even though his account is flagged military....yup, bank called this morning bc he was in Abu Dhabi eating and shopping.

Awesomemom he was able to reroute his plane ticket with the help from the navy travel and flew from home to Florida. He paid the difference. I'm here anytime you have questions. NMH

Thank you Dillan! He seems to be happy with the new job. My husband (navy vet)and I were upset in the beginning but my son had a great attitude and said things happen for a reason. He sure has changed since bootcamp. I love it!!

Awesomemom he flew straight to Florida and was there for 2 days and then flew out to Spain on New Year's Eve to meet his ship. I'm not sure if he will change ships. Good luck to your son too during bootcamp. You will be amazed at the change in him. It's amazing !

My son was actually going to be an AO but at bootcamp they checked his vision and reclassified him ... He had to pick another one and picked epact fireman. He's ok with his decision but will now need to strike for a job after one year I think :) he was assigned engine man on his ship USS Fort McHenry. There was no graduation after school but he did get 10 day leave which was awesome since it was Christmas holidays. Is your sailor in bootcamp now awesomemom ?

no worries, I didn't take it that way...:))

When the ship left there was a port schedule, it's changed but you can give the ports code names...usually the ship post it too on their FB, so then it's common knowledge..... he usually calls he tells me what day of the week, sometimes we've had to change the days bc he might have watch the first day...

I have an account on the travel site with my credit charge for holding the room. I checked the pay at hotel option and then he pays with his ATM or Visa card on site depends on what they take in that county.....last port I he called home, I said "hey I here you're in Dubai", he said "how do you know"...I giggle that the captain posted it this morning...:))

Any of you have the "navy" app??? it has coool photos of the day, videos and the media dept puts a "week in review" out most weeks..."all hands update" talks about personnel issues like up coming testing, housing reports, benefits.....plus the Navy does have some cool toys!

Re-read what I typed. No accusation meant! I was just curious, because it never worked out that way for us.
