Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

Beach Bunny -- How do you manage that re: OPSEC? I never knew what port my son was in until he left (except for the one time he logged in at an internet cafe in the UAE and my hubby was fortunate enough to be able to chat for a few minutes).

BeachBunny- does your son have a credit card to pay for the room? How does that work?
Comment by Christie on February 24, 2015 at 12:25pm
BeachBunny I would love to do that for my son. Thanks for sharing!! I don't think either one of us know what to expect when you are at port but I have a feeling we are definitely going to learn haha

that's cool Christie...my sailor gets a motel room for some much needed R&R at each port...I book the room on travolcity and he pays at the hotel...usually he has a buddy with him to share the cost, the employees at the hotels tell them the best places to go....they sleep the first day away, then explore the local sites and seem to love the food in the different countries....he sends me pictures of his food..:)

BeachBunny how exciting about striking and getting a new job!! My son is on the Fort McHenry and is doing good. Just learning everything and looking forward to his first port visit after being at sea for a couple of months :)

Interesting that the females are on the ship and the males in base barracks....The berthing rooms(bunks) on the ship are set up women and men in separate quarters...and are restricted to the opposite sex, duh right..:)...I got to go in the one on the RR bc the squadrons berthing rooms were empty, since they went back to their bases ....there's separate berthing rooms for the petty officers, higher ranked officers and commanders....there's a separate officer galley too...my sailors KP duty was in the officers galley, as every sailor takes a turn at KP for their advancement schedule....

Aviation sailors and ship sailors are in different parts of the ship...easy to get lost bc everything is painted Navy grey......many areas for squadrons have locked doors, had to put codes in to go into them. We got to go in the "briefing" room called ready room for our briefing of the ship, they have a "shop" area and a lounge to hang out in, really small room with a bench seat, computer and TV....my sailor takes his laptop with movies in it and they play them on any "free" time (they work 16 hours a day 7 days a week)....

new sailors are given a checklist to go around the ship and find the different areas, just like any sailors going to a new base or squadron...

Christie, my sailor is on his 3rd deployment and is working TAD orders on a squadron on the Carl Vinson, was on the Ronald Reagan for 2 deployments...:)

Got news last night of one of the BC buddies of my sailor from Pcola, finally striked a job!! Took him 2 years, he is excited!

BeachBunny which ship is your sailor on ? My son is on his first deployment too

I have pictures of the flight deck...on my page...:))....we were told we can take all the pictures anywhere we wanted, that any sensitive material is behind a locked door....the carrier put on a great family event and air show last spring....I could live in SD easily...

my sailor is on deployment, the carrier post pictures almost every day of the carrier and the captain writes a nice post to the families at least once a week on the ships FB page, ships media dept put together a video every month and ship magazine.......I'd advise getting on the carriers obudsman email list.

Good Morn Ladies..

Great question Vickie...it depends on the rate and the needs of the navy or squadron at the time...I've seen some stay with the squadron and work on quals and some go back to Pcola..one changed planes so he went to a different ship, another came right back to the squadron and ship...does all depends....

Michel's mom when I was on the RR, I got lost as every set of ladders and walkways are painted in Navy grey! Good thing am short as every 30 feet or so there's a door and step to walk over, the hatches, got pretty good at running down the ladders though.....
