PACT Moms

Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

Some of you are talking about RAP...here's  a link:

I have found that the sailors leaving Pcola after training only about 1/2  get leave after school, as they have to report to base or the ship...

My sailor joined the USN to see the world, the first Christmas he "popped" in to surprise us, the next year spent a couple of days in a foreign port having a blast. We, too, facetimed and talked many times while in port...it was fine, just a "new" holiday routine. next year we are planning on meeting him in a different port, as his little brother will be in BC starting his own Navy journey...I think it's exciting to follow them in the journey.

My son chose APact because the job he wanted wasn't available.

yes.  the first year I didn't have either him or his sister (she lives on the east coast too and we are on the west coast).  But we face-timed and talked.  I just have to remember I had my husband, my mom and my sister.  It could be worse.  I could be alone.  AND my son is doing something that he wants to do.  He was fine with it.  I sent him a package and the ship had a HUGE spread for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  He was VERY happy.

Was it hard to not have your child home for the holidays?

Comment by nvduhmom. on January 19, 2015 at 11:32pm

not after bootcamp, however after their initial training they can get leave.  If they go home and work at a local recruiting center they can use up to 5 days toward their leave.  (they don't have to count towards leave).   My son chose to go direct to his ship and we did not see him during the holidays.  He will get 10 days leave next month before deployment.

Will she get to come home any after boot camp and training?

Comment by nvduhmom. on January 19, 2015 at 10:49pm

boy, alot has been going on since i was on last...emotional mom. My son has been undesig since July.  Graduated bootcamp in Sept.  He said he cannot strike for a job until he has been in the Navy for a year.  What will happen is after bootcamp, she will go to training, sort of like a school for s-pact.  Then be assigned to a duty.  All i can suggest is for her to do the best in whatever she is assigned to do. Don't complain and work hard.  Hopefully if she has a good CO, it will be noticed. She will then get a good review and when it is time to strike for a job, she will have a better chance of getting it.

I cry buckets every tax season thinking of all the things our government waste our money on. Not the Navy, of course.

Comment by Momma Mickey on January 19, 2015 at 9:53pm

Oh no, I picked emotional mom because I am the most emotional person I know. I cry at everything and anything. I love tax season!!! Lol, I am actually the sanest person I know during tax season.
