Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

kim, My son was in Pensacola from Sept 20th to Oct 17th.  He got his orders for Norfolk about a week before his PIR.  He enjoyed the warmth in Pensacola and the classes, but he REALLY likes Norfolk.  He said there is alot more to do there.  He doesn't have a car, so he walks alot, but meets up with another guy that he graduated from bootcamp with and is on another ship there.  They do not get cell service on the ships, so they have to go off base to call or text.  I was used to talking to him every day in Pensacola.  He said he couldn't work out much in Pensacola because the Marines "hogged up" all the workout equipment. They have him on an aircraft carrier (i am following OPSEC).  They basically put him where they need him.  He is working with guns now.  Apparently you have to take quals (qualifications) online for the jobs before you can do it.  It is like a crash course.  He loves learning new things.  He is pretty easy going.  He really wants to learn something that he can take with him when he gets out, but he knows that he has to work hard and make a good impression and then he will start working on the quals for the other jobs so he can be ready to do it when they need him.

Although my daughter is no longer undesignated, and things have changed since both my kids went in starting in, my son 2006, then my daughter in 2007. I'm here for support and try to answer any questions you may have if I can.

I'm very proud of both of them. My son went in rated and my daughter undesignated so I have a foot in both areas.

Nvduhmom...I would love to know about his time in pensacola, how they decided where he would go, and what they have him doing. Also...is he enjoying it? Thanks

Hi all,  My son graduated bootcamp 9/19.  He is A-Pact.  After a month in Pensacola, he is now in Norfolk on an aircraft carrier.  He is undesignated A-PACT.  If there is any info I can provide, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I want to thank Vickie for inviting me to this group. I am happy to lend support to help you get this group started. I don't have any real hard facts regarding being Undesignated except for the few members of my local group whose children were Undesignated (and are doing well). Often, I find dads have a different takes on what support means. Moms want info but want a supportive place to feel comfortable where she can cry, vent without fear. My husband has been a family law specialist for 40 years. Engineers (hard science people) tend to go over the salient points of an issue and that is that - as far as they are concerned, a resolution has been reached. Most moms/women I know tend to "rehash" the problem - because we are not done with "feeling" the pain or feeling the pain that we think our children are going thru.

To be realistic, I know there have been many who have encountered undesirable (negative) results from being undesignated. Because of that, it's even more important to find out how to get rated - pro active steps to take to get rated.  I sincerely apologize for my lack of knowledge. I wish I knew more.

Did your kids pass the PT before they left? My son is close to reaching the goal but his friends all shipped out so he lost his motivation. I hope he will be ok.

Michael's mom. She is doing well. She is tired and a little stressed which is to be expected. How about your son?
