My son and his wife have their furry family finally in Hawaii. My two granddoggies got to Hawaii yesterday. They did their quarantine time here in California and just now got to join the kids. Now they can have some fun in the Hawaiian Sun. I know  it will feel more like home with the pups there.

My heart breaks for this young sailors family. My thoughts and prayers are with them. GROTON, Conn. (NNS) -- The body of a Sailor assigned to USS Boise (SSN 764) was recovered in Norfolk, July 6, during a Navy-led search for the crew member who fell overboard while the submarine was moored to a Naval Station Norfolk pier.

Sonar Technician Submarine Seaman Rolando Acosta, 21, of Plainview, Texas was found dead after falling overboard around noon while standing duty. An investigation is ongoing.

The Navy notified Acosta's family and conveyed its condolences for their loss.

"Seaman Acosta was a hardworking and highly valued shipmate," said Boise Commanding Officer Cmdr. Scott Luers. "His presence will be missed by USS Boise and throughout the submarine force. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Acosta reported to Boise last December. The Norfolk-based submarine was Acosta's first assignment after enlisting in the Navy in January 2012. He attended Navy Submarine School in Groton from March to November last year.

Boise is a Los-Angeles class attack submarine commissioned Nov. 7, 1992. It includes a complement of nearly 130 officers and enlisted crewmen.

Msvines, we will miss you. I too may be off of this site soon too. Not off of N4M's but just off of the Port Royal one. I know I started this site and all of you can keep it going for future moms for their sailors too.
We are sitting watching the military channell and it has Pearl Harbor and the bombing of it on. They are exploring the Arizona. It is quite interesting. I guess it hits home more now than ever.

Well my son only has less than 2 months left down there. He is getting excited for his new adventure. I can't believe 2 yrs went by soooo fast.
4ever,yeah 4 days in a van, yeah I don't think that would be a good idea either, but like you said we would do anything for our sailors. It would be an adventure down there and you would fit in too. How about a tent? When we were there last year there were a lot of tenters. I think it would be too hot to do it but it would be fun too. Tenting on the beach, fun.

MSvines....thanks for the welcome. This is my sons first assignment out of his C school training. He seems to really love the ship and the people he has met on it. I understand there is a lot of unknowns about what is happening with it as far as keeping or Decom...I have been reading everything I can get my hands on. It is all an adventure what ever happens. I guess if he isn't in port when I go I will just enjoy the Hawaiian vacation anyway. It would be a huge let down not to get to see him.

I am in Vegas...Allegiant airlines has some great promos to Hawaii the airfare is very cheap but the hotels are very expensive so I thought about just flying there and renting a van and sleeping in the van........hahaha what I would do to see my son port back from his deployment. I don't think I could stay in a van for 4 days I am not out of my mind YET....

Hello Msvines, doing good here. I will be part of this great family for at least 4 more years. Mine re-enlisted. He is done in Hawaii in August then off to a new adventure.
I thought th PR was getting decommissioned but maybe they changed their minds once again.
Yes we went last year and my sailor was doing RIMPAC. So we didn't even get to see him while we were there.
