With SERE coming up and some others behind my son to go - found this about the new place in New Hampshire - pretty scary, but very inspiring and hope none of our LOs go through what he did:

I will forward your congrats to my son! I'm anxiously awaiting to hear all about it - hopefully today. All I got yesterday was a very quick email, with a picture of him (very red eyed) and NO STACHE. I didn't know they had a tradition of making all the qualifiers grow a stache until they finish this final test, then they have them shave it. Thank you to everyone...so glad I finally got a good nights sleep last night! Thank you also for the gift ideas! I'm waiting to hear from my daughter-in-law what she'd like to do. He said he wanted the wooden desk models of the two aircrafts he flew during primary and secondary. He's hoping to get the growler, so maybe we'll get him those two with engraving of his name and date of graduation, then tell him the other will be forthcoming. The other is an idea I got off this site for someone who does a beautiful stain glass of the gold wings. My daughter is in Pensacola this weekend and is looking, and she is goign to let me know what she decides...hopefully today. Again...thank you!

Congratulations to the new qualified aviator!
My son - a SWO - surface - arrived last evening in San Diego (from Michigan) for his first ship duty. He is so excited to be on the West Coast and looking forward to the challanges on his ship.

Winging gifts... depends on your budget. 14K gold wings, a wooden carved copy of his helo or plane, carved wooden wings for wall mount, artwork (usually available at the winging)

The WHOLE family...ok Paymaster, thanks...I think I catch the drift. That is what she said, and I was thinking...well...you and the kids...how nice!!!

Thx again...I will do my best to get good shots, although my daugther in law is the amazing one with the camera. I do have question though and I'm afraid to ask my daugther-in-law...HA HA HA..Sorry, but here it goes. She said they all have to go up on stage...does that mean, just his wife and kids? Or will I have to be up there to (his father and me)? I'm rather not, but I'll do what is required. My daughter-in-law is very busy, and not too communicative on the details...which led me to this site in the first place. Obviously as far as gifting I have to run it by her first so as not to step on toes and make sure I don't get him something he already has. Any input from those of you who have gone through it?

PS...I made a mistake on my original post...he's not being winged until December, and I've been told the date can change. Of course I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't since I got a great deal on tickets.
