Laurie7 - my son was just promoted and we weren't notified in any other way other than knew it was his 2-year anniversary since being commissioned. I'd suggest having someone on the ship take a picture and then sent to you. I'm still waiting to see my son's pic :) Congrats!

Just a note for sending items: Just remember that the space that your sons/daughters have is not that big! Ask them what they need BEFORE you send. Chocolate melts and items that may leak should be put into zip-lock bags. It is better to be safe than sorry. Everything gets shipped either through the APO or AFO addresses. But remember, there is nothing more precious than a hand written letter from home!

while my son is on deployment he likes to get things that you can't get on the ship. I send powered drink mix packets like propel and coffee singles , hard candy, sunflower seeds in the hull,( keeps them busy while on watch) Dried fruit, canned tuna or chicken salad with crackers, the little packets of cookies , peanut butter, or cheese crackers, slim jims and beef jerky. While you may want to send them homemade baked goods, it is not recomened . I also throw in some crossword puzzle books and some current magazines. batteries and sun screen also and lots of love!!!!!!!!!!!

L227....Glad your son was able to call. That's a good sign they got phone calls.

Hi, have some questions. My daughters friend's ship will leave 07/10 for the middle east. I would like to know how often they get mail and what are some popular items to send to him.
He and my daughter graduated from the academy last week and she will not be deployed for awhile.
Thank you

Wow what a surprise Class 19-10 OCS was able to make a 2 minute call home in their first week. My son called his go to bud...his sister and she missed the call. He did leave a message and said it was hard. He gets about 4 hours of sleep a night. Hope we get to hear from him next Sunday.
