Just dropped in to let folks know that my daughter has safely returned from Haiti and doing humanitarian relief efforts. I'm so proud of her shipmates and the Navy for actually being, A global force for good!! Thank all who kept her in your thoughts and/or prayers. I can now breathe a sigh of relief....at least until March...lol

Sarah,

You husband sure likes a challenge! Cross rating presents unique challenges for Officer Candidates. My son is a STA-21 FY-10 selectee. OCS and STA-21 from and ECP (Enlisted Commissioning Program) prespective are very similar processes. The main difference is that STA-21 selectees must obtain a degree before Commissioning. I would read OPNAV 1420.1B(http://doni.daps.dla.mil/Directives/01000%20Military%20Personnel%20...)...all your answers are in there. In particular, for OCS, see Chapter 4 and Appendix C. It's 219 pages of "light" reading!

My son is a Nuke and applied for Pilot (Core was his second choice). My son's process was three years long. He applied three times--STA-21 can only apply once a year. The first two times he was in the pipeline and it was extremely difficult to find the time to give the application all the attention required for an outstanding package. He's been an instructor for two years so he had more flexibility in his schedule, but not much. Since there are no pilots in Ballston Spa, my son set up his interviews with pilots in Norfolk. He drove to Norfolk, interviewed, and drove back to NY. Your husband will have to interview with Information or Intel Officers, depending on his first choice. There may be some in SC. In general ECP is a wonderful opportunity, very challenging, and very competitive. I wish you and your husband all the best in your endeavors.

I was sharing this information with the group that has children deployed in the middle east, but is valiable information for all of us.

I know this is something that we don't usually think about, but when our children deploy overseas that would come in handy, and that is getting a US Passport.

You never know when the need arises to have one and it is something that does take a bit of time to get. But if you do have one and you need to hit the road with little notice, it is worth its price in gold.

If you do get passport and need to use it, try to make sure you leave a photocopy of your passport with someone that is trustworthy and also have the ability of either faxing you a copy or a PDF attachment.. The reason for this is if you ever loose your passport and you are out of the country, it is much easier to get a replacement if a copy can be sent the embassy

Hi everyone, I am back.
We the People is a blog I posted in response to a blog by Kvidal. If you click on the link, it's self explanatory. I am asking you to add a comment to the blog to show support to the sons/daughters in the Navy. My son is a nuke officer on a sub.

There has been a troll denigrating our Navy. I just posted a blog. I would like everyone to add their thanks to their own son/daughter (no names please) for serving in the Navy.
Here is the link to the blog: We the People of the United States. Click on link.
I am monitoring the comments because I don't want that troll to sully it.
