What is the difference between A school and C School?

My son is in his second week of boot camp. I am confused of the difference between A school and C school. How long do they last? I hear it all depends on his job. Also boot camp started Oct. 24, so I figure graduation should be around the 20th of December. Does that seem correct?

A school is apprentice school, they learn the basic training for their rate. C school is more indepth training. The easiest way I can explain, my sailor is AO, all AO's do the same A school, then depending on the orders they get, they can do C school right after A school before they get to their command, or like my sailor, she is squadron, so her C school was to learn the different ordnance used for the jets she will be working with. So C school is more specific to thier actual job they will be doing.  Every A school and C school is different based on rate.

All PIR's are on Friday, unless noted, I would wait for the letter from your son to give you exact dates, he will know for sure.

Something else to keep in mind, not all Sailors go to a C school straight from their A school. The rate has a lot to do with it. Our son's rate, tgey all go to C school (he's an IS). My husband's rate, they send on avrrage 2 - 4 (the top 10% roughly) to C school right away (he's a CTR). Also, Sailors can be sent to several C schools over the course of their time in the Navy. It's just really going to depend on a lot of factors.
