Pssssst01 my son left CL last May. : ) after spending 3 1/2 years with his Marines. He went on 2 deployments one to Afg and one on a ship.
  • Margaret_ProudTexasMomof2Sailors

psssst01, my son has only been at CL since July. He is assigned to a Marine Unit. He spent the past 2 years in New Orleans in a clinic. I think he is happier at CL. He is about to leave for 10 months.

Be sure to ask to which Marine Unit he assigned. Mine is with 3/2 India Company.

    Thanks for the information everyone!

Anyone have a daughter working at the Hospital? I just found this site. My daughter has been at the Camp since December. She is assigned to L & D at the hospital. I have never been to NC in my life and will be going to see her in April, I can't wait. I miss connecting with other Mom's like I did during boot camp. She is my baby and YES..everyone tells me to cut the cord..It is hard, I miss her a lot. She is 21 and I know I got to let go, but I can still shed a tear or two when I think of her. So if anyone else has a daughter at the Hospital, I am from Arkansas and would really like to reach out. I am on FB too. Thanks for letting me onto your group.

  • mikes mom

My son is also graduating tomorrow from FMTB!  He is staying at CL for the next 3 years.  He is assigned to 2 battalion 6th Marine division.  Wish I knew more about that.  Maybe I should join a Marine mom group :(

My condolences to the marines and their families from camp lejeune killed in Nevada today. Thoughts and prayers are with them.

  • mikes mom

yes my thoughts and prayers go to all ... my son left CL last May
  • Tamme

I have them all in my thoughts and prayers as well.  Has anyone seen any names released?  My son left CL in December with the Marine team he is with in Afghanistan.  He was in Nevada in the fall for training.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Tamme, I heard a report that said they were delaying releasing the names for 24 hours to allow the families private time to grieve. This marinecorpstimes story has the family-released names of two of the Marines.   A terrible day, so sad...

  • CRUISES72

Here is a local link (here in NC) with names of Marines killed:

Hello- Just received official word that my sailor son will be headed to Camp Lejeune after A School Graduation in May.

    On to the next chapter...

  • CRUISES72

    Welcome txdylansmom!

  • txdylansmom

Thank you!  N4M was such a huge resource/encouragement for me when he was in BC. So, I am hoping you veteran Lejeune Mom's will give me the 411 on what to expect in the two months he will be there. :)

  • txdylansmom

Tenn Navy Mom- yes, my son will be attending FMTB then orders are to head to Lemoore, CA...

I didn't think there was a Marine base there-- we will see.

  • Tamme

Welcome txdylansmom.  My son finished FMTB last year and stationed in Beaufort, SC.  He is now on deployment with the Marines in Afghanistan.  During FMTB, he was able to come home on most weekends since we live in Charleston.  During FMTB, he lived in a "dorm" and it was sort of like being back in bootcamp with the daily drills and studying.  Before Beaufort, he was stationed in Groton, CT in a clinic for two years.  He says now he wishes he had done FMTB right out of A school since he was still used to the drilling of boot camp and studying.  Personally, I was glad he waited so he could be a little older than such a young high school grad.  Your son will have his cell phone, computer, etc.  He can even have a car if he is bringing one.  Be careful what packages you send - they make them open them in front of everyone.  My daughter and son-in-law sent him pictures of their newborn son on a CD (80 pictures) and he had to do a push-up for each picture.  He thought it was funny, we were furious.  There is a nice graduation at the end of FMTB as well.

  • Margaret_ProudTexasMomof2Sailors

Welcome to the group, txdylansmom. My son is stationed with a Marine unit at CP. He did his FMTB in California and was then sent to New Orleans in a clinic on a reserve base for two years. He likes being with the Marines.

FMTB is a training much like boot camp, but more relaxed as in A School. He will have time off as in A School, but drills as in BC.

My son liked it, in that it kept him busy and being a corpsman with a Marine unit is why he joined the Navy. You should check out some of the videos about FMTB on Youtube. They give a good idea of what the corpsmen do while in training. He will become very buff while training with the Marines!

My son has just transferred to Camp Lejeune from Camp Lester in Okinawa. He is an 8404 Corpsman.  He says he really likes Lejeune so far.  I am originally from NC myself so I envy him a bit being back in the Carolinas.

  • mzungu

I have a question about taking leave either en route to FMTB from Ft. Sam (A school) or once arriving at Camp LeJeune. My soon-to-be Corpsman graduates on May 13th and is scheduled to start FMTB on June 3rd. He. STILL has not received his orders, but is a reservist and has FMTB in his contract. I've read about many Sailors having to report straight to FMTB from Ft. Sam and then being on PSI until they class up. Some say that you can request leave once arriving at FMTB, others say they were able to take leave en route.

Do any of you have current experience with this? I've also read that they can submit a chit once a arriving at FMTB, but that they're rarely approved.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Sorry mzungu, don't know about this :(

This was just posted on FMTB-E/Facebook for Class 13030 graduation May 13:

Each platoon is putting a list together of people who will need a base pass to get on base. If you are coming to graduation and do not have a base decal, please be sure that the person you are coming to see graduate gets your name on the list. This will make it possible for you to obtain your base pass on the 15th instead of waiting until the morning of the 16th and you will be able to do it without your Sailor.
If you are going to be driving the student's vehicle, without them, while you are here, you will need to get a pass.
Be sure to have a valid drivers license, registration, and proof of insurance when you go to get your pass.

Class 13030's eight-mile hike, photos posted yesterday - gotta love the attitude! :)

I stayed at the Baymont Inn and Suites and liked it very much.  Breakfast is included in their rate.  The room was well decorated and the manager and staff friendly and helpful.  They have a pool, too :)  Baymont Inn and Suites Jacksonville NC.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

(btw I booked it through Hotwire.com, got a good rate)

  • txdylansmom

Here we go... My corpsman son checked in yesterday. Today is his first official day at Camp Lejeune. What can we expect for the next two months?

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

txdylan'smom, he will be able to call you evenings and weekends, which is nice :)  If you send a letter or package, there will be pushups involved - not as awful as it sounds, but ask him his preference to receive things or not!  He's at Camp Johnson, which is adjacent to Camp Lejeune.  They are able to share taxis to the CL Marine Exchange, go out to eat in Jacksonville on the weekends, go to Walmart etc.

The first few weeks are classroom instruction, then training in small arms and tactical combat casualty care out in the field.  You can track what he's learning by going to this link FMTB-East then -> Students -> Student Materials -> FMST Manual.  There's a lot more info at that link too, just look through the dropdown menus.

Starting now, you can watch for photos of him during his training on the FMTB-East Facebook page here:  FMTB East on Facebook

They have a nice graduation ceremony if you're able to go; lots of family members attend - Graduation info

He's about 50 miles from the town of Wilmington and its beaches and the Topsail beach area.

He will have a great time, they all do!  Here's a video, music optional LOL

  • Vipergirl

Thanks Marcy for the hotel recommendation. I have booked rooms there for a visit before our son's deployment.

I am writing this a little late, but thought I would share the wonderful trip we had to Jacksonville and Camp Lejeune...My daughter is an HM in L & D at the hospital...We are blessed she has plenty of friends and they are looking out for her..Men and Women...Some folks out there have raised some of the finest young men I have ever met. We decided to go up for a week and stay on the beach, we found a place called "An Answered Prayer" in North Topsail Beach.. The house was beautiful though because we were on an island, it took us a while to get to the main gate...(My husband is a newbie to the Military)..Ph heaven have mercy, he is a former cop, and I had to teach him "Military Presence" when we were trying to get our Gate Tag...Regardless if those foks issuing passes are from the Department of Homeland Security, I had to explain...this isn't the Airport... :)..Anyway, we got a tour of the base...One of the Biggest ones I have ever been to, and my first husband was at SAC HQ in Omaha...Everyone was SO NICE around the Nay Dorm, and they are very well kept dorms. They sit right across from the hospital and you can walk to work. Nice perc to living on base. My daughter has always had her own room, no roomate yet...One thing I noticed when we pulled up was the number of Sailors who came to look at the family (LARGE ONE) pulling up outside...So my Litle Sailor decided to pull a trick on me, while everyone was outside and I was doing a "Mom Inspection", she had one of her friendfs annouce to her Dad "Tell him you his future Son In Law! WOW, you have never seen a mom move so fast in her life, I think I did a standing Broad Jump over the bed to get outside...Last Laugh on Mom, Right? I have my ways of getting back...LOL...Well to get to the Point, North Topsail was a wonderful quiest place to stay and enjoy time with our Sailor. While the base is HUGE, the Hospital Community takes good care of their staff and I really like that. I feel very safe having her so far away, because I know her "Buddies" have her back...Hopes for a wonderful day.... This Navy Mom signing out! :)

  • psssst01

    Thanks for the info Channa1!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Love your story Channa1, especially the "standing broad jump" LOL  Glad you had such a great time!  I too am grateful for the positive experiences my corpsman has had within the Navy medicine community.
