A lot of corpsman are coming from other commands, not A school.  You'd think that knowing what's coming, they'd get in shape, especially since they can be held back a class, and what out-of-shape person wants a workout program with Marines?! LOL   I wouldn't worry about liberty too much at the outset, as your son can focus on study for the initial five blocks of instruction and exams.  There are taxis standing by to take them to the M/EX next door at Camp Lejeune, so that's something anyway :)  I'm sure he'll do fine.  What will he do at Williamsburg?

JT  will be attached to Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 1. They are the only active duty cargo handlers in the Navy and travel the world. Because they can be in combat areas JT has to have FMTB training. He will get to live off base there something he got use to while stationed in San Diego. I told him when he goes to Norway I will go with him since I had the opportunity to go there while I was in the Reserves with my Seabees. He is lucky in that he doesn't have to use a cab as he took a car up there. I drove with him there but when he leaves he will be driving home alone since he wants to visit some friends . I have never flown out of such a small airport or used a prop plane before. It was an experience.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Your understated comment made me laugh!  My son had his car there also, and after FMTB graduation we took some corpsmen to that airport - fortunately made a deal to follow one of the taxis, otherwise would never have found it out there :)   Your son's assignment sounds cool, good for him!  Hope you get your trip, what an experience.

Hello everyone, my son graduated from Corpsman school and has been home on leave.  He leaves for FMTB and hoping this site can help me out.

  • UFQ202- Ship 12, Div 231

If you have questions then ask away. My sailor is there right now.

  • Sunshine Sandy

Thank you, I know I will have plenty of questions along the way.  He will be waiting for the next fmtb class to start in October.

  • UFQ202- Ship 12, Div 231

When does he report? JT will graduate Oct 11th. He was not happy to find they have open bay barracks and shower. Tell your son to run every day as they have a PT test the first week along with a basic corpsman test.

  • vettespace

Yeah, it's like being back in bootcamp for some and most aren't crazy about all the mustering for hours on end at the start and the wee bit of yelling (Marine style), but it gets better and they learn a lot and will definitely be in good shape at the end...LOL

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome Sunshine Sandy!  Here's some info: FMTB essential information

  • Sunshine Sandy

My son leaves tomorrow, he will be on hold until the next class starts.  My dad was a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in the 1960's so he was very happy to hear my son was heading that way.  He just finished corpsman school and is looking forward to the next step.

  • UFQ202- Ship 12, Div 231

Does your Dad go to the VA? There is a special program for people stationed at Lejeune because of the water. You can go to VA.gov and check it out. He may be due some disability. I sent you a message.

  • Sunshine Sandy

Yes, he has monthly medical visits at the VA.  I will have him check it out.  Thanks

  • UFQ202- Ship 12, Div 231

BTW it is the smallest airport I have ever been in. The planes are propellers. It was an adventure when I flew home after driving there with my sailor.

Hi all, my son graduated class 215 and is on his way to Camp Lejeune. Should arrive Dec 1 to start FMTB training he thinks after Christmas. He says he can't wait to start. He likes the physical aspect of training more than anything. I will be posting now and then.
  • vanjr1

navyaunt, thanks, I will do that.

JustAnotherMother, that is great that your son enjoyed the FMTB training. I know my son is looking forward to starting after Christmas. He is there now and volunteered to help in maintenance while he waits for his class to start. He is very into physical fitness and can't wait for that part of training. I'm sure he will enjoy it as your son did. God Bless!

  • carafid1

Hi ladies have a quick question did your sons sign up for FTMB or were they assigned? I think my son might have signed for that but wast sure. I know the navy will put them where they wanted him lol
  • Sunshine Sandy

My son signed up for it. He just comply field week and is looking forward to a trip home after everything has been completed
  • vanjr1

My son wanted to go for FMF which, as I understand it, follows FMTB but he got assigned to Cherry Point instead. He will still complete FMTB and hopefully get the opportunity to pursue FMF in the future. He wants to be attached to a Marine Corps Division. Not sure how it all works yet.

  • carafid1

Thank you ladies for all the information I appreciate it

My son had his ticket 're routed to come home. Can we drive him to north Carolina or does he have to fly there? Thanks for any info. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF YOU AND YOUR SAILORS!

  • Tamme

You can drive your son to NC.  So glad to hear he is going to be home.  Merry Christmas.

  • nikkih01 (ship 014 div 308)!

Thanks again for the info! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Hi NavyWife, every time I've gone to visit my son or welcome him home from deployment I've rented a condo on Emerald Isle from Bluewaternc.com. This is the off-season so you can rent a place for a good bit less than a hotel.  A visit to historic Beaufort, NC along the water is close by as well.  Have a fun visit!

This article made me smile :)  Happy New Year everyone!  Camp Lejeune Marines Trade Tanks for Golf Carts

  • vanjr1

They posted some photo's of 14020 on their 2 mile hike. Found my sailor. "-)

  • Tamme

Nice photo!  I remember when my son did FMTB two years ago that I think the final hike is 8 miles.  He is 5'6", 112 pounds.  Just can't imagine.

  • vanjr1

Thanks tamme, Yeah, I think the final got harder from what I read in a Dec post form the previous class. That sailor said they do an 8 mile hike and are out for 5 days and can allow only 3 hrs sleep per night. Not sure if that is fact or not but we will find out in a about 6 weeks or so. Mine is 6'1" and 190 lbs, he's our youngest son but the tallest one.  God Bless!

Tenn Navy Mom, thanks for the compliment. I am very proud of what he is doing. He sounds so happy on the phone and he said he has never been more motivated about anything. I feel he is both physically and mentally prepared for this challenge as he has been training for over 3 years swimming, running and in the gym pushing himself to the limits as well as competing in MMA. He is a very mature 19 year old. I can't wait to hear stories from him later in life. I pray for him daily and that's what keeps me emotionally in tact. It will be an interesting journey for him and us. God Bless.

  • vanjr1

There are more pictures of FMTB class 14020 on the FMTB east facebook page!

  • vanjr1

FMTB East update. My Corpsman was so bummed today when they cancelled Field week which was suppose to start at 0300 this morning. He sent us a text at 0500 to express his disappointment. I guess there is a little snow and they decided to cancel. When your raised in the Midwest a little snow is a part of life. He was so looking forward to the activities they had planned. Hope they can get to it soon.

  • vanjr1

It appears 14020 is doing a "modified" field week due to weather for safety reasons according to the answer I got on the FMTB East Facebook page.

  • vanjr1

My sailor graduates FMTB at camp Johnson Thursday so we will be driving down from Illinois to see him. Can't wait to see him. We were hoping for warm weather but looks like that won't be the case. Oh we'll, 45 degrees is better than single digit temps with we have had for 2 months.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Wow vanjr1, time has flown by!  Congratulations to your 8404 corpsman on tomorrow's graduation, hope you can post some photos!

  • vanjr1

Thanks tenn navy mom and Marcy, time has gone by fast. He made his 1 year anniversary on Feb 12th but still a long road ahead with at least 18 more months of training. The temp will be about 45 and that's 45 degrees warmer than we have had back home for a few months so it's a heat wave for us. lol, Anyway we will have a few days with him so don't care to much about the elements. Will post some pics later. Thanks for the replies and God Bless!

Here goes Tenn Navy Mom ...I finally post as I am about to start the journey with our younger sailor .he has just completed 2 yrs in Italy serving in Cappadachino clinic as a hospital corpsman . Now the next step is CLJ .
I am so thankful for all your advise over the past 3 yrs .he will be with us till Friday when he reports .
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Enjoy your time with your son, Sheryl!  Soon you'll have his class number and will be poring over the FMTB-E page on Facebook, looking for his smiling (if mud-smeared) face  :)  (Sent you a response to your note, too.)

  • sheryl Navy 2

Thanks Marcy . I was surprised to find you here as I knew your sailor was back it Italy .
Looking forward to this group .
  • Ole-CorpsmanMom

Hi all it has been ages since I have been on here.  actually forgot about it.  I tried to find a facebook site for CL Navy Mom's but haven't found one.  I know there aren't many that stay there after FMTB.  :(  Would love to touch base with other Navy mom's who has sailors that stay there.

Sheryl Navy 2 - what did your sailor do in italy?  Did he go there right after A school?  My son would love to get there or Spain.

  • sheryl Navy 2

Ole -corpsmanMom our youngest sailor was at the clinic in Cappo for the past 2 yrs . He loved it .travelled all over Europe ,visited a lot of family . He went straight from San Antonio to Naples area .
We also used to live in Mn :)
  • Ole-CorpsmanMom

So he was FMTB then Naples?  And now where?  My son is in the mom baby unit for 2 years after completing FMTB.  From there he wants to get over seas.  I really hope he gets there.  He wants to see the world.  His sister loves to travel and would most likely visit many times (as would we).

Where in MN do you live?

  • Sunshine Sandy

I also forgot about this site, my son is still at Camp LaJeune working at the Naval Hospital.  He completed his training with FMTB in early December.

  • Ole-CorpsmanMom

Sunshine Sandy - what department is your son working at?  My son is in the Mom Baby Unit.  Does he live on base?
