I will say one thing about our ships being deployed to the Philippines, all will be working hard.  I know in the past everyone that has extra civilian clothes with them will be donating them to the civilian citizens along with anything extra they have with them.  God Bless them all and keep them safe.

NancyW.--Thank you for the welcome! I may be here a bit early, but I look forward to learning the ropes from all of you. My son is NROTC and will be commissioning in May 2014. He recently received his service assignment and got his #1--Naval Aviator! He is excited and I am happy for him. I figured I could be ready if i joined this group.

  • JudyM

Welcome helenp. You will have great support from the group here. There are such experienced folk such as Nancy and Paymaster. They can answer about any question. My son just received his wings in April and the two years to get to that point was amazing.

James, great news about having the whole family. I also am blessed this year. my DS and girl will be here as well as my non-Navy son who is moving back from Japan. He and his wife will be here as well. That is the best Christmas blessing. No gift can compare with that!

  • Paymaster

Welcome helenp...Hope you find your time with us as enjoyable.  Please let us know what we can help you with.

  • helenp

Thank you for the warm welcomes everyone!

We had a big windstorm last week, and this tree fell on our storage/emergency cabin.  There's some damage to the roof, but the fact it's still standing shows my husband's building skills!  The tree was leaning the opposite direction and downhill, which why it hadn't been cut down earlier, and was so big it took us three days to get it off.  We are really lucky to have power.  There are still 400 homes without electricity a week later and it's -30.  Considering all the disasters other places, this is pretty minor.

  • Paymaster

Michelle.....Glad to know that you are safe.

  • JudyM

Sheila, good thoughts and prayers for  you. I know how difficult it must be not to see him since winging.

Kris, great you will be able to spend Christmas with your DS. My DS got engaged the weekend before Thanksgiving. Happily, they will be with us for Christmas.

  • JudyM

Suzie, We will be keeping sunny thoughts for Meridian. I know it is really hard to plan about moving dates. Such is Navy life! Please post a picture of your patches frame.

  • Paymaster

Suzie...I would like to see a picture of your patch frame too.  Sounds like something neat to make for our aviators'.

  • TennMom

Hubby and I made it to japan! DS met us at the airport and thankfully so, it took 4 different trains to get to the base and we never could have done it alone!
That first hug was so surreal, hard to believe we are here. Was a direct flight from Atlanta, 14 hours.
Planning on resting today, then let the fun begin. With 2 weeks we will have plenty of time with DS and site seeing!
  • Paymaster

TnNavymom....So glad to hear that you made it safe and sound.  Enjoy your visit. Looking forward to hearing of your travels.

Brrrr freezing up here in the northwest.  Thought you all would enjoy this sweet picture of my Dogs on Deployment dog reunited with her Navy pilot dad after a six month deployment.  Maybe one of you will recognize this fine young man?  JudyM I think he probably knows your DS as they are at the same base & congrats on the engagement!  Little dog could not contain her joy when she saw him, it would melt the hardest heart.  All four of my kids get to come home for Christmas!  I have made several trips to Boston since the 1st of Nov. to watch my youngest play soccer.  She was named the New England Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year!  Couldn't be prouder of all of my kids and all of yours!

  • Paymaster

Flyboymom....Yes, your words are so true.  We are like a big warm quilt filled with love.

Don't forget to watch the Army/Navy game on Sat.  Go Navy, Beat Army!

Two beautiful ladies!  My DS will be moving to Whidbey after the holidays.  We are in No. California so for us its wonderful to have him that close.  On to the next training for him!  To all you lovely Navy4moms..

    May your tree be evergreen

May your Christmas be ever glad,

May your loved ones be ever near,

    may your joys be everlasting.

  • CheriH

Hello all!  I've been following your posts; love the pics and congrats on all the good news.  Life at work has been crazy.  I really need to find a job whose busy season isn't Sept through Nov. :)

We managed a visit with DS and DIL at Thanksgiving.  My hubby's family ranch is halfway between here and Kingsville.  Had a wonderful time and DS got to relax and de-stress a bit.  We will fly to CA to see daughter and her hubby for Christmas and then back home in time for DS and DIL to arrive for New Years.  We are enjoying them being close (if 8 hours of drive time is close) but after Kingsville, they will likely be much farther away!

I too am very grateful for you and this place to learn, vent and support each other.  I pray that this holiday season brings you joy and contact with your loved ones...may it be in person or by Skype!

Bake a ton of stuff.  Took four days to get it all cooked and baked.  Sent out 22 trays of goodies like this.  Have just enough for the house for over the Christmas holiday. Photo: This is the goodie tray I bought into the office today. I have made 22 of these tray's this week and this is the last one. Had fun making everything and know everyone that recieved one is enjoying it also.

Is there anyone who can pick a Marine up from Meridian Naval Airstation on Dec 23rd and get him to the airport? He is trying to get home and I am going up on the 20th and 22nd. typical cab fare from the base to the airport is $500.00 or more (!) can you believe that! Anyway, If you live withing a comfortable driving distance let me know. I could use some help in helping these guys and gals get home for Christmas. I live down in South Alabama close to PNAS

    Thanks!

  • Marianne

Suzie: Congratulations!  I'm glad that your DS's winging went off as planned. How very special for him and your father, too.

To all: Have a blessed holiday season. For those of you whose children will be home, enjoy every minute. For the rest, may you at least get a chance to talk over the holidays. My DS is travelling in China right now, but we've had two chances to talk since thy got back from cruise and it makes all the difference in the world.

May 2014 bring you and your families peace, happiness and good health.

  • Barb

    Suzie,
Congratulations! So happy for all of you. That is a great family photo too, wow! Enjoy the holidays, everyone.
  • CheriH

Congrats Suzie...I got tears in my eyes reading your post.  Knowing all the work that he put in to get to winging and all the prayers that went into it on your part!  Have a marvelous time with him home!  Love the picture and the note about his granddad.

  • Paymaster

Suzie....Your Dad must had been so proud, along with you two!  It just a blessing that your dad could join you for the winging.

Looking forward to seeing you projects.

  • NFAO

Congrats Suzie - our son just moved to NAS Oceana from Kingsville; he is thrilled to be back on the east coast.  Maybe now they'll finally meet!

    Happy holidays to everyone!

  • JudyM

Great news that so many have their loved ones with them for the holidays. I am one of the lucky ones also. DS and fiance here from Whidbey and other son and wife on way from Southern California. What a great Christmas present.

  • gonavymom

It is great news that so many are home for Christmas!  Let's see some pictures.

Loved your picture Suzie, it brought tears to my eyes.  So proud of all of our sons and daughters and feeling blessed this Christmas surrounded by all of mine.  Merry Christmas Moms and James!

  • CheriH

May each of you have a very Merry Christmas!  Thanks for all the support and friendship you have given this year.

  • JudyM

My best wishes to all. Thank you for the love and support.

Waiting for DS and fiancé and older son and wife to wake up and open gifts. Having them home is my gift . . . and the best one ever.
  • Paymaster

Navy Wife....Sorry to hear that your son was burglarized, but at least no was hurt and everything is replaceable.  Glad they are safe.

  • JudyM

Glad to know I am not the only Mom that worries all of the time.
  • Vcstones

Had a great 2 weeks with son home from Pensacola with his twins and wife. Worried as they drove overnight last night too. But they made it, no trouble! Don't think we ever quit worrying about our kids!
  • NFAO

Just dropped off DS at SERE in ME- so now my worrying begins...

  • NOAM

NFAO, my LO just completed SERE before Christmas, the week it was really cold.  He said they made sure and took good care of them, insuring they were hydrated, etc.  He said with the winter issue gear, warmth was not one of the concerns.  His training was also in ME. He said there have been two things he's gone through with the Navy so far that have lived up to their hype - one was the centrifuge and one was SERE.   He said he learned a lot and is very glad he had it.

Hang in there and keep in touch with the group here.  They are all VERY helpful!

    Stay warm! :-)

  • JudyM

They do learn valuable skills at SERE, but are glad when it is over. Like everyone, worry is my constant companion.
  • Barb

Welcome CathieRenee!  Happy New Year to all...so glad that many were able to enjoy their loved ones over the holidays.  We had our son here for a week and it was wonderful.  He was so happy to be home (and we were so happy to have him home!) and spent a good portion of the time on the couch holding his brand new niece.  His siblings all came and stayed to maximize their time with him.  It was just so great.  We have his dog here with us for a few weeks and I know they are missing each other.  She is a southern belle and does not quite know what to make of the foot of snow outside!  Stay warm everyone!

  • gonavymom

Praying.  One rescued crew member is confirmed dead.  One crew member still missing.  It was a training mission. What a grim reminder of the dangers inherent in their training.  May God comfort and hold their families close.  Blessings and protection over all our aviators.

  • Barb

Sending our prayers to the crew, families, and the larger Navy family too.
  • Paymaster

    {{{Hugs}}}to our Navy family.

  • Thetribemom

Long time since last time on here...AD was blessed with another round of school before he goes to Japan to meet his squadrin.  He is in Norfolk.  Best bubby is assigned to helo squadrin that crashed. Prayers for him and his mates....morale is low right now. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers

  • NOAM

My LO is stationed at Virginia Beach; he said they rescued 4 of the 5 of the MH-53E crew and one is still missing.  One of the rescued died after they were found.  The water is about 46 degrees so please keep the prayers heading up.

  • CheriH

Praying for all involved.  It does take one's breath away knowing that our LO's are in harm's way on a regular basis.

  • NOAM

Sorry to hear that is the outcome Suzie but thanks for the update.

  • Paymaster

Kathy B...Its always so hard on the survivors.  If its meant to be, your daughter will find a way to be with both families.

  • JudyM

Went this morning to the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery to pick up the wreathes from the veterans graves we put out in December. Went with two other Navy Moms (Sylvia (R) and Linda (center).

  • Paymaster

You know its going to be a good day when your deployed child calls you first thing in the morning just to talk! Happy day:)

  • NOAM

My DS called at 5pm to tell me, which made me smile.  You probably wonder why...when the chopper went down  the other day and I couldn't reach him, I told him this group is 'in the know' and he'd better tell me these things before I read them if he can get to a phone.  He flies Super Hornets, so made sure to call me right away today so he'd stay out of hot water.

He said the pilot ejected safely and was picked up by a fishing boat; they didn't know yet what happened with the plane.

Prayers and best wishes go out to the pilot and family.

  • CheriH

Hubs and I are feeling a bit of angst as these two incidents are a little too close for comfort.  DS is close to finishing intermediate; should know his selection sometime in February.  There are definitely days when we wish he had picked something a little less dangerous.  Gotta just remember he is in the Lord's hands.

Praying for the families affected.  And for the pilot still in the hospital.

  • Barb

Just called my son in Kingsville, just to hear his voice. Prayers for speedy recovery and hugs to all our Navy family. It touches all of us.
