TJCsMom - I hope those rumors are true. My son is away at school so I don't have any GW info (feeling out of the loop LOL) but he'll be back on the ship in time for fleet week so I'll keep my fingers crossed for the GW!
I hope someone sees this soon and knows the answer. My son is on the GW and I need to know if there's any way I contact someone about an issue we are having. sorry I can't elaborate right now, I just need to know if anyone knows if there's someone I can actually speak with.

Hi, thanks for asking. Sorry it took so long for me to respond. My son has been having a lot of difficulty adjusting to life on a ship, and has been receiving therapy for depression. Unfortunately for his Navy career (but fortunately for his health), this is becoming the end of the road. He feels terrible, and feels as if he let himself, the Navy, and everyone down. He's going through the process of medical separation, and may be home soon.
Alyce, I'm so sorry to hear that your son has been struggling! Military life is not for everyone...if it was, everyone would serve! Thankfully, he is getting the help he needs and I pray he will continue to seek help when he is finally home. Please, thank him for his willingness to serve our country and let him know that I am keeping him, and you all, in my prayers!!
Thanks for the update Alyce. It's such a difficult road for those who are not where they are meant to be. I praise your son for having the courage to try, by no means is he letting anyone down. I pray he gets the help he needs and is able to move on with his life and discover what his true calling is. I thank him for his service and courage!
Ny son is still in SanDiego He graduates from C school April 18. He received his orders today and will be sent to the USS George Washington and will be stationed in Newport News =, VA. His wife will be stationed in San Diego, They met in Great Lakes and got married while they were on leave during Christmas. They are both in tears at the moment and I am feeling helpless. There is nothing I can say or do to make them feel better Has anyone else been through this situation?
After two and a half years of training, my son is finally leaving port; a worthy milestone in his Navy career. Sometimes it is bittersweet to achieve your goals in life. Happy for him, being supportive of his precious bride, thanking them both for their service to our country!
I'm a mom that came to this group from the TR. I was in the FRG/Ombuds group and on the email list for the TR. How do I get on the GW's FRG/Ombuds group and email list?
My son mssgd me that the Tiger cruise would be 15-16 July and only 2 people per sponsor. I'm super excited, would love to join him on this lil family adventure!
BBS, yes this group is for the crew now stationed in Norfolk. I would think, if the cruise is an overnight cruise, the answer to your question would be no.
My son told me he put his father and I on the list for the Tiger cruise- he didn't have the exact date but I was wondering if anyone had any further info re what to expect and length of the cruise???? Just trying to figure out how many day to request off of work :) Thanks for any help!!!
My husband said he heard the tiger cruise was cancelled or at least for the date they originally planned, but I'm not sure 100%? To get on the ombudsman list your sailor has to email the ombudsman from their ship email and give them your name and email address.
CountryGirl no i haven't heard anything from the ombudsman about the tiger cruise, only from my husband and I'm not sure how reliable he is haha he isn't the best listener!
Haha joshmom it's the truth and he will be the first to admit it, that's too bad that it was cancelled. I think it is because the underway was extended/:
I think some sailors only have selective hearing - they hear what they want to hear! LOL well at least a lot of men are like that LOL
Here's the scoop my son gave me: Says the decision to have or not have a tiger cruise was left up to the sailors and it was decided NOT to do the cruise. He wanted it to happen bc his brother was going to go. But as he explained to me the number of sailors actually having guests for the cruise is relatively small compared to the number of sailors assigned to the ship. If a sailor doesn't have anyone going on the cruise they basically could care less whether they have it or not. I know it's a bummer!!!!
Does anyone know where the sailors will be living and what they will do for the 3 years a ship is in drydock? My son is currently E2 and arrived to Norfolk his first duty station this past May."
Just thought I'd let you all know that my husband and I open our home on the weekends and invite any sailors who would like to , to come over and eat dinner with us, play board games, watch movies, etc. and just give them a place to hang out. We get together on Saturday evenings at 5 and then on Sunday at 1. Sunday is a day for a sit down lunch(dinner) with homemade bread and dessert and of course the main meal. We have a lot of fun together. So please pass this on to your sailors and let us know if any of them are interested . :)
