If it works out for my husband in that same time frame...maybe he will be home Christmas eve.....HA. wishful thinking.

My son called yesterday and said he was in ship 5 and coming home. Ironically, I got his box about 15 minutes before that call came.We are so sad and disappointed. He said much the same thing as the rest of you have said about the conditions, however, The person I spoke with because I just did NOT understand was very very kind though. She said the CO wanted to TRY to get everyone out before Christmas, but not to count on it. THEN I read that some of you have had loved ones in there for MONTHS!!!!!!! This is just awful.

Z's mom, sorry to hear about your SR. We've all been exactly where you are and know how you feel. The Christmas thing is really hard. Maybe they will get him home in time, but if not don't worry, he's going to be okay and they will take care of him. There are many wonderful families in the Chicagoland area that take many of those boys home for the day and those who don't have a great day with hundreds of volunteers at local churches and schools who's only goal is to give them a great Christmas. Hang in there.

I got the "kid in the box" yesterday- 15 minutes later I get the call my son is in ship five and is separated!!! What a day. I have cried for the last two days. End of a dream and I don't know how to put a positive spin on it.

Hey everybody. Such a gloomy day. Hoping my husband gets to see legal today. Maybe i'll even get to hear from him! Did yall hear about the CT shooting? I am seriously in tears right now. Praying for everyone involved :(

Ladies... Just heard briefly from our son thru a phone call. Travel contacted him and advised he was flying home on Tuesday, possibly Monday if an early flight was available. 

This is excellent news for everyone as they are trying to get as many sent home by Christmas if not before.

For the questions that will follow:

Sent to S5 on Dec. 3rd.

Was legaled on Dec. 11th

We are so pumped up it is unbelievable. Everyone's prayers have worked wonderfully and we cannot thank you enough.

For those who still have not heard, hold on and breathe deep. The end of the storm is around the corner. We will continue to pray for everyone's SR and families.

@Erika... I know things look VERY dark, gloomy and your emotions are running rampant. trust me when I say we have ALL been there and most still are. You are in the right place at the right time for support, guidance and answers to ALL questions you have. Confusion? Yup... you're already dealing with that.

Bottom line is this Erika... put your feelings in here. We all are here to support each other as we ALL are family. Family takes care of family.

There are plenty of shoulders to cry on, ears ready to listen, prayers to be offered up for you and your SR. Don't be shy or embarrassed about anything.

When this happened to our son, I fell apart like a cheap suit. My macho attitude? GONE!! My manly, tough guy outward appearance? GONE! Ask anyone in here and they will testify to that I came unglued in many different ways.

We are here for you, your SR and ALL the others whom I'm sure have an SR in ship 5 (S5 for short) and have not come here yet.

So, let it out lady. We all understand and will support you like a true family, since that what we are.

Legalized YESTERDAY. and will be home late next week!!!!

@CP... That is such awesome news!!  Soon our son will be home next week as well. We are waiting on his call Monday evening for flight info.

@CP.. The phrase "Business as usual" never sounded so good and never was so welcomed in your home now that your son is home, huh??

So glad for you. We are counting the days until we hear from our son on Monday night with his flight info, then will be counting the hours until his arrival.

My daughter had a really great idea... my son and daughter usually go over to my mom's and help her bake cookies this time of year.

SO she came up with the idea of calling Mamaw (My kid's childhood name for Grandma) and asking her if my daughter and her could make cookies on a certain day (the day after my son comes home). She would tell her that my son isn't going to make it home until the week after, then show up on her doorstep on the cookie baking day with my son standing at the door when she opens it! (CUE: Pass out the Kleenex). Pretty sharp daughter huh?

I had come up with idea of going to my in-laws house the night my son comes in from GL (providing it's not to late) and surprising my son's grandparents. Keep in mind that his Grandfather (wife's side) is retired Navy. So this will be quite a visit for sure!! (pass out the Kleenex)

Anyway, I'm praying extra hard (if you can do that) for EVERYONE'S SR's, be it hubby, son, daughter, BF, GF, brother or sister, make it home for Christmas, safe and sound.

My wife (glorann1978) and I will keep y'all updated on his arrival and any pertinent news. It really does look like legal is trying to get everyone out for the holidays.

Our son said he will call Monday night with his flight info, so we are hoping he will be flying home Tuesday as well.

It's a very good sign that our SR's are being processed very quickly (all things considered). I don't believe that legal is closing down on the Dec.19th as we were lead to believe, at least not by the way so many are being processed. 

@Melissa... Oh man.. That's such terrible news! I sure hope your SR is incorrect.

Possibly your SR's CO's exec can step in and sign off on the waiting SR's to finish processing. Usually the exec can follow up in place of the CO. On board, when the CO leaves the ship, the XO (exec) takes over command in the CO's place and the CO's responsibilities and authority.

Lets hope his XO follows thru with this.

Hello - my son arrived on 12/5 and we just got our first letter from him saying he'd been assigned to Ship 5.   I'm not sure if he even knows what this means, because his letter was quite upbeat.   The 'Boot Camp Moms' group told me this means  he's being discharged!    I don't understand what is happening.  It is Saturday night now, so I can't even call his recruiter, but I plan to at the first opportunity.   I am worried sick and don't know what to do.

@scdel he could have been sent for a variety of reasons. Our son was sent there for admin reasons (paperwork) he has been there almost 2 weeks. He let us know yesterday that he should be home next week. We have been able to periodically communicate thru facebook by sending a private message. You can still write to him while he is on ship 5.

scdel  my sons recruiter was of no help when I called him to find out about my son.  My son had actually left a message on his brothers phone that he was separated so I got on this site and found Ship 5 and called the number to seperations administration listed above and they confirmed my son was there and had him call me back. 

Thank you to everyone who has responded to my post with kind thoughts and information.  I hope to know more today or tomorrow.   My first concern is for my son, and helping him get through this.   I truly appreciate everyone's help.

Just wanted to say Thank you again so much for the support from persons on this site. I was so shell shocked when I got the call my son was being separated a short 15 minutes after I got "the box". My son has been allowed to call almost daily, they have asiisted him with future plans now that this dream has ended. Thank you again so very very much - caring, kind and loving people do exist, and you'll find them here at ship 5.

Dear Z's Mom - I am glad to hear this, thank you for sharing.  Emotionally, I'm about 2 days behind where you are now, so very glad to hear that things can get better.  Especially glad they are assisting your son with future plans.   I have yet to speak with my son directly (I keep missing his calls), and am waiting for SAO to open this morning so I can call them and try to get some information.   This Ship 5 site is the only place I can find comfort right now.

<SIGH> Just got done chatting with my son on FB and he's going to call between 8-9 tonight after chow to give his departure info.

YAAA!!! Our son's gonna be home in a couple days if not one. Hope you all are getting related info such as this.

I hope its tomorrow txnavydad!! My husband just called me saying he will be home Wednesday. So hopefully, I will get the departure call tomorrow night. People who are legalling today will be going home Friday. I'm too excited to have him home. :)

Well TX, I was right all along.  After putting all the information from Ship 5 moms and dads, along with the intervals of phone calls and other stuff that just didn't add up.......  I questioned our SR today during an 'unexpected' phone call  about everything I knew and my suspicions.  "If your lying and plan on surprising us- you will die!!!"  His reply.... "There is no way I'd do that,  Are you crazy.  How could a joke about something like that."   Like I said I was correct.  Had his dad pick him up from airport and 'SURPRISE'.  Might I just say he's just lucky he is still alive at this very moment.  Same ole' kid.  Less hair and ugly glasses.

Yup, its official!! Our son is "Leavin' on a jet plane!" "He's comin' home agane..."

Just got off the phone with our son and they are leaving for the airport at 10am tomorrow morning to come home. I told him about what Melissa's son did and he confessed that he had actually thought about doing that! The TURD!!

But, hey, he will be home and that's what counts. He said he will call from the airport before he boards.

@Melissa... Well there lady... some son you have there... I love his covert operations! He's all Navy, thru and thru!! That was an awesome trick to pull. LOL

I'm guessin you have not let go of huggin him yet... Totally understandable.

By the way... did you run out of Kleenex yet?

@Bridgett... Has your fiance been legaled yet? They usually give them a pretty accurate time frame of when they are leaving. How is he doing btw?
