Nancy, thanks for letting us know ! It will be my son's first deployment and we welcome ANY info!  Does anyone know any info about any upcoming TIGER cruises that the family can participate in? 

Dang, I was planning on going out to SD in June of 2013 to run the Rock & Roll Marathon with my son.  Well laid plans . . . . .

Welcome ChipsAhoy!  It is nice to have new people join and give their insights to the group!  I heard mixed messages now that they are leaving sooner than later, not sure of any other details though.

aatimom- I am praying for your son to have good news on his MRI and all will go well with him.

Annie, thanks for your prayers!  Our youngest son had more symptoms yesterday from his injury and his neck doc is out of town.  But they said to come in Monday.

So you heard the Stockdale was leaving sooner?  I hope we know for sure soon.  I hope it's later that they go out ! Christmas at home with our son would be great!

Chips, Congratulations on another addition to  your family! I am sure your husband would like to be a part, do you skype each other? I guess that is the adjustment of military life!  My son seems to think they are leaving in a couple of months but couldn't tell exact date and where they were going..but he said it is a tropical place and they will be there for awhile before deporting. Hope you all got my drift of hint...aloha!!

I tt Reid last eve. He was dead tired working 12 hr. days getting ready for rimpac. Pretty sure he said that's 6 weeks out. Anyone confirm?

What's rimpac?  I don't know much of the logo.

I didn't know what that meant either. I haven't heard anything yet of the time frame either.

Last eve. my son said 3 mos. for manuvers. It takes a week to get there; a week to ret. to homeport. Good news ChipsAhoy, is that new Daddy will probably--most likely get leave after. Last deployment the newbies to the ship stood watch while the deployed got leave. That's fair.    

If you go on the USS Stockdale face book page today, there was an award ceremony and lots of pics!  My son is the last picture!

How is everybody doing?  Haven't seen any activity!  I think they are getting ready to go to their destination soon? Any word?  I love to see more activity happening on facebook as well! My son is really enjoying it, however he OC Spray last week and he said that it was worse that gas chamber during bootcamp!  I cannot wait to be able to go out to San Diego to see him, the ship, and the bay!  I love it!

I thought all the family members had shipped out too Annie!  Reid says the deployment is January. He will be rotating off the ship by then and on to Monterey DLI.  They are all pretty stressed now with so much testing of every system.

My son said they had a pretty rough week doing there testing. He was so glad to be back.. I am glad they do not deploy till January..Christmas together would be great! 

Hello everyone.  I'm new to this group.  My son just got tenative orders to this ship after his school.  I'm quite familiar with the Navy, so it's not etched in stone yet, but probably, he'll be heading to the ship in June.  I've read through the postings and see deployment in January?  Can someone update me?    I'd appreciate it because I'm trying to figure out when a good time to plan a trip out to San Diego to visit would be but want to be sure the ship would be there.  Thanks.

Welcome Aboard!  From what I understand they will be going to Rimpac  sometime in June till August, and then they will not deploy until January. However, I understand that it may be anytime from November to January. So I am assuming it will be January. That is what I am planning on. It is hard to really plan on anything when you really don't know much. I think he is going to love the ship, my son does!

Annie is right on with my info too.  December in San Diego?  swell!! 

And...the Captain is a nice, concerned man. The crew seemes to respect him -- he appreciates the crews hard work.

I am hoping to go out before they go to Rimpac, and go aboard it. I have been on a carrier, but not a destroyer. I look forward to it..My son is trying to get into a barracks. Does anyone know how long it typically takes?

Annie, my husband / I were fortunate to go to the Commissioning in April, 2009.  I've never seen a carrier up close and personal ex for the Midway on display in SD. So the Stockdale will seem squat to you!  But the whole military spit, shine and honor to our Great Country is what gets the heart to beat with pride. Don't recall where you live, but we stayed at the Navy Lodge across from the dry dock on the base. Nice digs and close to my kid. Have a Grrrrreaaaat trip.   

Rimpac scheduled for 6/29 - 8/3..I wish I could see that! how cool! 

I am not sure if I will be going out to see him before this..or when they are getting ready to leave for deploy.

Talked to my sailor son this weekend ! so great to hear his voice.  Said after Rimpac they will be going for 2 months of training right before deployment in January through September.  Hopefully will get to come home before the training time.  It's starting to get real....myy son will be on deployment.....scary, nervous, trusting God to watch over all of them.  Have any of you other mom's had your sons on deployment?  How did you handle it?  Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.  Wish we could all get together now for a big group hug!  I could use it! 

It is starting to get real. I get used to talking to my son alot when in port, and the closer they get to going out, the more I know I have to prepare for less contact. Even when they are out for a week, I worry!  He is my baby of four, and they have all experienced the Navy, but I still worry!

Welcome all the new Moms!  Annie, that's what Momma's are supposed to do - worry.  Terri, that is timing.  Maybe their deployment will get delayed, remember, we talking about the Navy!  Everything changes.  aatlmom, you worry, you cry, but we are proud Mommas.  They are out there, doing what most won't do - fight to keep the home front free.  God Bless our Sailors!  The movie Battleship is coming out this weekend.  Remember, Rihanna was on the Stockdale before shooting the film to see what a Destroyer looked like.  My Sailor said that they took a picture of the crew and they said they will have credits in the film.  He got to serve her a meal on the Stockdale because his job (when he was new on the ship) was serving the Officers in their private dining room and that's where she ate.  How cool was that!?

Such good word to pass on Colleen!  I have seen the trailor of Battleship and it looks intense.  Did any of your sailors get to see the preview?  Mine was going to but he said the line was really long..I am sure he will still pay the money to go!

Hi to all connected to the awesome Stockdale. My son and two others passed Chief's Board yesterday, will have a final walk-around with the Captain today to (finally) receive their ESWS! Two of the guys are separating from the Ship as it pulls out. My son will go to DLI-FLC in Monterey. This week was a praying, nail-biting, do-or-die experience for his family. He HAD to get that pin!!!  

Being a Stockdale family was an honor from it's Commissioning to this last day for us. What a fantastic crew of officers and enlisted!  I wish for every parent a great experience for your son and daughter. Encourage them whatever their rate, they are an intrigal part of the USN!  Fair weather and following seas. 

Putting my son on a plane tomorrow for his first assignment out of A school.  What is the number 1 thing I need to send with him??

If you are a praying parent, your committment to pray for his needs every day. What else parents?? 

I agree whole heartedly with Reid'sMa.  Pray for him every chance you get.  I would send cards letting him know how proud you are of him.  Pictures and newspaper articles of what's going on in your area so he feels "attached" to home.  Phone cards with international included and a pocket sized Bible.

Thanks.  This is my first time out so I don't really know what to expect.  I won't worry if I know I'm not gonna hear from him.

amazingly we got a lot of letters from him during basic (5-8 per week) which was a surprise since we never got a single letter from him in 8 years of summer camp - which was 4-8 weeks per summer.  he's pretty good about keeping up with email (I guess texts are out of the question).  he has yet to provide me with a mailing address for sending him packages.

My sailor son did call this weekend at 3 a.m., but it was worth the last sleep to hear from him.  He's not a letter writer.  So we just wait for the phone calls.  It is hard when it can be a while in between calls.  I know his first deployment will be hard for us.  We hope to go out in Sept. to see him!  Our first trip out, so if anyone has any advice for places to stay, things to see, etc....let us know.  Thanks!

Yes, see all of what indyrules said and if you really like Mexican food, go to Miguels (?) on Coronodo.  It was absolutely the BEST!  Our son arranged for us to stay at Navy Lodge within walking distance of the NEX. Since it's on the base, he has to be there to get you on base...you can drive out at will.  We used the train sometimes that runs right in front of the lodge.

There are no questions that are dumb. You should get an FPO AP address from your sailor.  btw, are you in Indy?  Would love to meet/tt a parent in central IN. We are 30 mi. from Indy

Ohhhh, they wouldn't dare hold mail for months.  They'll deliver it.  we're in anderson. 

Hello everyone,

I know they are out for about a month now with RIMPAC, and I know they can't get mail now. I was told that it would take at least a couple of weeks. My son said he had a great time in Hawaii and now they are looking at rough seas right now..keep an eye on the weather!

Thanks for all the great ideas for if we hopefully get to go out to SD in August or September.  It's been fun to watch RIMPAC on facebook and see all the pics and some of the Stockdale.  I'm in central Indiana (Carmel)....is anyone else nearby?

aatimom, my son has left the Stockdale after being a part of the crew since Bath ME.  Still would like to meet other Stockdale parents.  We live in Anderson.
