Hey. I know you cant tell me when they are coming back. But...is there a time frame...could I like give someone my email and they give me the date...I dont live close enough to go to the meetings...
  • Largefilipino

jkl2z7 I gave them a call and it was painless.
It's really the safest way to find out I think.

...although with the c#@% going on in our world I hope they are still on schedule.
  • jkl2z7

Hey Thanks Large. Yeah me too. This #$^# has me worried...But, we are the Best NAVY! I know that they are in Gods hands too.
  • Largefilipino

My manhood is getting tested here but has any of you Moms just browsing thru the computer been reading stuff about what's going on with our loved ones then as if out of nowhere you just suddenly break out and cry?
This has been an almost daily occurrence for me.
Heh. Manhood is too over rated anyway.
  • Largefilipino

Talking politics to people from both sides of the fence people are telling me we have a weak president. But like what would Reagan do? Start the no fly zone and trigger another Vietnam?
It's like I can't even do this political discussion thing with my friends when it comes to Lybia. It's all just so terribly annoying.
  • Largefilipino

Thanks guys. Just venting. I agree with you too Cheryl. I hope for humanitarian missions only, get it done, get on home.
  • Largefilipino

I'm right with you on that Sissi. It's not weakness at all. It's being smart.
  • Largefilipino

Googled the ship today and the news won't stop.
I was able to talk to my daughter today.
  • Largefilipino

This is hard because I cannot divulge any information as to how she got a hold of me even though it's all over the news.
  • Largefilipino

Absolutely Sissi. When our own sailors cannot tell us where they are then we find out from a Canadian news agency it irks me to no end.
Pat,she sounded great and in good spirits. I kept telling her how worried I was with all the stuff happening in the news but she told me not to worry they are all trained for this. My phone bill will be high next month but I don't care.
  • DCT MOM

Glad to hear that that you got to hear from your Sailors John and Sissi. Iam with you Sissi, i dont understand why they are getting by with it.
  • runnermom999

When we dropped our son off at Norfolk, we stayed at the Navy Lodge, but you have to have an active or retired military person with you when you check in.  I did see down the road a Hampton Inn.  Those are always nice and is about 1.5 miles from the base.
  • embarkguru

In regards to making hotel reservations, MAKE THEM.  Remember, you can always cancel up to 24 hours before you check in.  Do not wait for some one to tell you the date is for sure.
  • DCT MOM

Margie the Navy Lodge is a nice place to stay. Dustin had to make the reservations for us though. He is going to make them for us while he is on the ship. They do no t have to be with you if they are deployed.

    Welcome Barbara

  • Largefilipino

Thank you Molly for everything. This means the world to all of us!
Finally I can breathe because todays Summit just announced their recent port call. Googling their location it's a rather beautiful place with a lot of history. My daughter told me she took a lot of pics but I have to wait till she gets home.
Our kids have grown up people. And my daughter is not old enough to drink.
  • carols_kitchen

Mollys said it best for both of us.  As the designated coordinator for the adoption of the USS K, it has been a pleasure to see our boxes are still rolling in.  The last 24 just got shipped last week, so if anyone is waiting on pillowcases, I hope that fulfills their needs.

I have loved being the contact person with your Chaplain T., and will hold all of you in my heart and prayers. May your loved ones all return home soon to you--and enjoy a Tiger Cruise for me!  (Not exactly on our plans with a sailor who is a submariner!)

    Blessings,

    Carol

Passing this on to Large from my daughter who read this post.. Large mentioned that our kids have grown up and she was not even old enogh to drink and my daughter said, well not to give large any more worries mom, but she is old enough to drink in parts of the world she will travel to.. She said it with smiiley faces.. and reminnded me that she was 18 and had her first drink while on a port call.  She also reminded me that  nothing bad ever happened to her or her buddies from her shop. And that she had amazing adventures and was so proud to service her country and also to help other people in other lands.
  • Largefilipino

Haha! Thanks Polli! I'm gonna go tease her now in my e mails!
    They ALL deserve a drink!
  • runnermom999

I'm sure I saw this somewhere, but does anyone know what phone cards we can send that they can use on the ship?  Thanks!
  • Largefilipino

I really need to just stop googling USS Kearsarge then click news then past 24 hours. I can spell Kearsarge now without even looking.
I really need to just stop this. I'm so filled with worry.
Sorry. When I type stuff like this somehow it makes me feel a little better.
  • justanothermom

Large, I really believe they are going to be okay.  Keep the faith.
  • Largefilipino

Thanks JA Mom. I believe this too. But I still worry.
  • Pat

Had not heard from my daughter for a while either and finally got a very short email. I too am sure that they are very busy. The news does not sound very positive. Keep praying!
  • Largefilipino

Sissi, google USS Kearsarge then click news. When you scroll down you'll see Stay up to date on these results:
Create an email alert for USS Kearsarge
Then click that and type in your e mail.
  • Largefilipino

Real nice article today essentially saying the Kearsarge is right on schedule.
  • Largefilipino

It was a Marine article about the 22nd MEU from the Jacksonville Daily News . Don't want to break any rules but if you read it thru it all makes sense.
  • Hawkimom

My thoughts and prayers are with the people and our Navy in the Pacific.
  • Largefilipino

I'm so glad the Navy is looking out for us.
  • Hawkimom

Well, thank you. I have been reading posts here since November and gleaning info after we learned our son, 19-y/o from Iowa, was being assigned to this ship after he finished his A School in Pensacaola. He is in IT. He made it to the ship in the middle of Feb. What a deployment this has been!!!  I am almost on overload with all the world events to date... keeping my fingers and toes crossed and trying to think happy thoughts... Dad and I worry a lot about him, but he seems to be holding up in the short e-mails we do get from him. Go Navy!

  • Pat

Welcome Hawkimom! Your son may be in the same shop with my daughter since she is a CTR. I get short emails from her too but I know that they are busy.
  • Largefilipino

Today's summit left a foul taste in my mouth. If the government shuts down so would troop pay. Personally I think our troops deserve NFL pay but that's just me.
And Welcome Hawkmom! I'm usually not great with saying hi so much.
  • DCT MOM

    Welcome Hawkimom!!!

Large iam with you this just isnt right.

Hope all of you going on theTiger Cruise. have a great time. Dustin will not be on the ship so we will not be able to go He will fly out with his helos so i will be at his Squadren waiting for him . But we will be there when the shp comes in

Hope everyones is having a wonderful day

  • Largefilipino

My Daughter is in weapons department. She just told us she earned her AOAN wings. Googling is telling me she can fly solo. IS THIS TRUE?
    Please someone let me know!
  • polli k

Now she has earned the same award as my daughter has.. Congrats to her.   Daughter never said anything about flying solo, she was more stoked about all the Huge guns she could now fire lol
  • Largefilipino

I hope they post pics soon. Congrats to your daughter too polli! I wonder now if this rank reflects on their mailing address.
  • Largefilipino

Thanks guys! She just told me it's a higher rank and soon to be higher pay. Not flying though!
  • Hawkimom

Anybody know about how much it costs to call the ombudsman #s? I dont have a cell phone will be using my home phone and I suppose it will be long distance and just wondered if it was worth the price to call it?
  • YVETTE NVYMOM

Ladies forgive me I have been away for months!  I am planning to attend the TC.  My daughter took the info for the attendees last month, name, age gender...does that qualify as "registration?"   I see that there are forms due by Apr 15th also.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • embarkguru

Hawkimom, I'm here if you need any assistance.

  • Hawkimom

well I wanted to talk to them about the dates of arrival at the ports... and they told me to call them. so... was going to call them tomorrow in the a.m, but was just wondering about $$$, guess I will just call and see how much it ends up being... I am not going on TC, but was thinking about trying to get vacation time to see the ship arrive in port.... but need to have a pretty accurate eta to plan for that, as I will be driving....

  • embarkguru

Hawkimom, I am the Ombudsman Lesa.  I believe that I have spoken to you before.  The date for arrival has not changed since then.  I don't know what $$$ that would be for.
  • Hawkimom

    Iowa, almost Illinois
  • Largefilipino

Well it's here. Ship is in RC. No E mail from my loved one.
    Stay safe everyone.
    Hooyah!
  • Largefilipino

I hear you Sissi. I'm in Denver so my daughter would have to fly to get home.

Looks like it's on reading all the news.
I'm a Host Home Provider. I take care of two developmentally disabled adults and every Saturday whenever we can we take the public bus and ride to downtown Denver. On the way there I started crying. I can't stand it.
I know we have 11 of our finest ships out there and 18 more from other countries and no planes or troops are flying over or into Lybia but they are still in harms way. My daughter tells me to chill out but it's hard.
I hope I didn't break any rules. Sorry if I did but I just needed to type this up.
  • justanothermom

I am glad I am not alone watching/reading the news nonstop.  Join me in pacing; let's work some worry off.

Sissi, we got an email from an official saying they were RC.  I think those news programs with diagrams are just speculating, though.  What might be true at one point in time might not be true just a little while later.  I have been reassuring myself by reading the ship's official website.  Under "missions" it describes what all they are carrying.
  • Largefilipino

I talked to Jamie yesterday Sissi. They were out of RC for just a moment. She only had enough time to tell me not to worry. I see no evidence thus far of the Kearsarge firing any weapons so maybe for now they are being an audience.
