Husband and I are flying in late Saturday and will be meeting the ship when it comes in to Norfolk. Son in law will be picking us up and we are staying at their house in Hampton. Sounds like the base will be busy.
  • justanothermom

I am trying my best not to go crazy.  I am an adult.  Behave like an adult,.  Behave like an adult.  Behave like an adult.  Your son does not want to see his mother going crazy and embarrassing him.

Oh, who am I kidding?  I will be crazy.  Already am, in fact.  Can you tell?  ;)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Pat, it's likely you aren't eligible for the tc without your sponsor. However, you & your son's uncle will be able to go onboard with your sailor after the ship reaches the pier and everyone is off.
  • justanothermom

Oh, Sissi, I love that.... "Acting like an adult is overrated.  :)
  • Pat

None of us will be embarrased because we will all be acting the same way including most of the sailors. How can you not? It is the normal way to act after such a long separation and it is why we are family. Because we all care about and love each other so much.

cheryl  may I suggest one of the hotels on base, everyone can find it    they have outdoor areas  to sit and talk   the navy lodge might be too crowded

Ladies, might I make a suggestion on a meeting place?  There is a Chili's that is near the exchange and commissary.  You do not have to go on to the base to get to it.  Just a thought.

I was thinking of you ladies today as I was trying to navigate around the Exchange.  If Chili's doesn't look like it will pan out for all of you, there is a Mexican restaurant on Hampton Blvd that is in-between the Navy Lodge and Hampton Inn.  Maybe something as a backup plan.  BTW, bring your patience if you decide to come to the Exchange!!  Your Ombudsman.

  • embarkguru

Ladies, for Monday morning: the FRG festivities start at 0700.  The ship will come a couple of hours later.  When on the Naval Station, follow the signs.  Base Security has assured us that there will be a nice 'trail' of signs to the piers.  Once at the piers go to the end of Decatur.  This is the main road that runs in front of all of the piers.  Go towards the end of Decatur towards all the big white tents.  Park in the carrier parking lot.  Due to OPSEC we cannot give the exact time or pier.  You will not miss our area though.  Take care and hope to meet you all.  Your Ombudsman.

yes, I am at the "other location".  Sort of.  We picked up our Marine (Fri 13th will never be unluckty again!) and got a room on the beach for the weekend because he had not seen enough water.  ;)

Sorry I did not see your message earlier.  Hope you all on the TC are having a great time!  We will be leaving here in the morning because we have to get back to work.

  • justanothermom

Hope y'all have a great HC at Norfolk.  Ours was kind of low-key, but that was just fine with my Marine.
  • Largefilipino

Thank you all for everything! I'm glad all our loved ones are on American soil and safe. I hear this amazing ship will not deploy again for at least another year? Is this what I'm hearing?
  • justanothermom

So glad to have had you folks to lean on.  Perhaps we shall get together again.  Thanks for sharing.
  • Largefilipino

Thank you sissi! That is so awesome you got to see my daughter. I only wished I was there too. We won't even see her till the 31st this month but I'm glad our sailors are getting long leaves. Well Thanks again everyone!

One of my son's Marine Kearsarge friends got sick aboard ship and lost a lot of weight.  Upon return, he has learned that he has lymphoma and has already had his first chemo.  Please keep him in your prayers.
  • Pat

Homecoming was definetly a memorable experience. We gave my daughter just a days rest and then had to go up to Gloucester, MA on business so took my daughter and son in law along. Caught a Sox game last night at Fenway and heading back to VA later today. Home to WI on Wed. Will be praying for the Marine and all those from the ship for an easy adjustment back to a more normal life. I have enjoyed being part of this group. Daughter is detaching from the ship in June and next assignment is being an instructor in Everett, WA so they will be moving. Godspeed to all!
  • polli k

My daughter is offically a vet now.. So I will be leaving  some of the Navy groups.. This one for sure. My son -in-law is soon to be a Marine vet. and they are coming home. to live. They will be here mid June. A big plus for me, since they have been on the East Coast and I  am on the West Coast. My 19 mos. grandson convinced his parents to move home to be closer to his Grammie. lol. I have enjoyed being here with all of you.. Best of luck to the families and sailors who remain on the Kearsarge.

Hi everyone  my sailor is back working on the ship  she was scanning bags as the sailors returned to work yesterday,  there was also a  boat accident just behind the ships pier 11  resulting in a death.    she got on base housing and is unpacked and happy to be only working on the ship   not sleeping there        wow sorry to hear about the  marine that got cancer      good thing they came off deployment so he can receive treatment
