Welcome ArizonaNavyMom!  Check out the discussions above - especially the "Nuke A School" & "Your Sailor's Schedule..."  Both have lots of good info that will prepare you for what is going on!  The Nuke Mom's group is a little more active than this site but we do check in here too :)  Between the 2 groups there are plenty of veteran mom's (& dad's) that can answer pretty much any question you might have.

You've got some great information here. I thought that my husband and I had an idea of what we were getting into, but now I'm wondering about that. His PIR isn't until Dec, but I figured I'd drop by and say hi anyway.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Welcome watchgoddess! You'll both be fine - we are all here for you!

My son is headed to Charleston for nuke school when he is done at BC. His PIR is December 13. I just received a quick 2 minute call from him yesterday. I miss him so much, but am so very proud of him!!

    hello all!!

my son has finished school in gc and is heading to san diego soon.  I will still be peeking in once in while though.

dragonfly--good luck to your sailor!!! are you going to PIR?   it is amazing!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Welcome Dragonfly!  Wow PIR on 12/13 - how exciting!  My son had PIR on 12/21/12....Chicago in December can (will!) be cold (but we had a wonderful time).  Will you be going?

There's good info above in the discussion forum that will prepare you for what to expect in GC.  Also, join the "Nuke Mom's" group.  It's a little more active and there is lots of info in their discussion forum that will help you too.  Feel free to ask questions!

tina41 - so excited for your son to be moving on to the next phase in his Navy career - all that hard work in school and now he gets to apply it!  I would LOVE for my son to get stationed in San Diego (it's only about an hour from us!) but that's still a ways down the pipeline!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

SmTownMt - I don't have an answer to your question.  If no one on here answers it you might also want to post it in the "Nuke moms" group.  There's more activity on that site and you can probably find someone to answer your question!

    Happy Friday!

  • Prime's Mom

Please except my most gracious farewell to all of you out here in Navy for Mom world and what I considered my saving grace. Thanks to everyone who have helped ease my soul and answered the questions in my mind. You have ALL been so very kind and a delight to follow. You see right now my son is coming home from Goose Creek. A six month journey we both took together. He was brilliant in every way since May 13 2103. He succeeded with grace, guts, and gusto. In the end he was 5th highest in Nuke school and a class act to his instructors, officers and fellow sailors and I Know he will be missed. His mission is over and we both know why. To say that I am PROUD of him is just the tip of the tale. I LOVE YOU SON. Momma is waiting up for you and today is the first day of the rest of your beautiful life............ To be continued. Godspeed to all of your SAILORS!!. My prayers and gratitude are with you all.
  • Dink(Vinson)

Best of luck to your son for the future, Prime's Mom! From what you've said about him he should go far in life.
  • tiggertime

Primes mom...is your son okay? Please accept my apology if I am missing something and he is not ok. I know the whole Nuke program is exptremely difficult. Our son is set to graduate Power school on Friday Dec. 13th and there is still some doubt as to whether or not he will graduate. It has been a long journey for him and he is majorly stressed out. Praying all is well with your son.

  • C95mom

Prime's Mom my heart goes out to you.  My son came home from Goose Creek on Tuesday of this last week, our journey only lasting 4 1/2 months.  I wish you and your son the very best in life.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Prime's Mom & C95mom - I wish both of your son's the best - I hope everything is ok.......

  • ProudNavyDad

Prayers and best wishes for all those who are moving on to something different than the Nuke Program.  I'm sure there will be great things ahead for them too.  They are fortunate that they have such supportive parents behind them at this stage in their lives.

    Happy Tuesday!

  • MomThatLovesHerSon

    Hi moms,

My son is about to graduate from A school in Charleston and I was wondering what y'all though was an appropriate gift or at least ideas of a care package for him.  I cannot afford much.

    Thanks.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

MomThatLovesHerSon - I replied to you over on the Nuke Moms site - take a look there!

  • Wendy4Cody

    Hi all,
My sin just started Prototype. I didn't get him a graduation present! I did go out there and see him graduate and spoiled him rotten for a couple of days. He said the best "prizes" were homemade cookies and home made beef jerky! Those both ship well. He also might appreciate a good set of flannel sheets. Try the Pointhaven sheets on Wayfair.com or Amazon.
  • MomThatLovesHerSon

Thank you all for your gift suggestions.  Christy, my son also is an ET.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Happy Wednesday!

  • Penny_Nuke_MM2_NimitzNuke

If you have access to Costco, they have the BEST Fleece twin and Queen sheets known to man!!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Penny - I'll have to get to Costco for the sheets!  Especially if sailor ends up in NY for prototype....

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

  • ProudNavyDad

Anyone happen to know the graduation date from Power School for Class 1401 (sometime in late April or early March by counting 24 weeks)?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

To everyone I would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!  I know I will be busy tomorrow (like most of you!) and probably won't be able to get on here....I am thankful for so much this year, but one of the things I am especially thankful for is all my new N4M (and dad's too!) friends.  You have all been so very supportive and have made this journey easier for me. I thank you for being there and I look forward to our continued friendship.....

  • ProudNavyDad

And thank you B'sNukeMom for taking over the group leadership.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Happy Monday All!  Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and a nice long weekend!  Only one more week until power school grad - woohooo!!!!

  • LaurenM87

Hey ladies! My husband and I will be in Charleston in a few months after he gets through boot camp. Any thoughts regarding on base vs off base housing? If we decide to go off base, which areas do you recommend?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Happy Tuesday all!  Heard from our sailor yesterday - he and his buddies got the apartment situation figured out for BS - yay!  One less thing to worry about.  He'll be off to New York soon ;-)

LaurenM87 - I don't know a lot about the base housing - my sailor has some friends there who are married and he says the houses are nice.  We drove past them when we were there for A school grad - I thought they were nice too.  It would be more convenient for you if you were on base - are you able to live off base during A school?  I'm not sure of the rules....  If you don't get an answer here then go to the "Nuke Mom's" site - there's more activity over there and you might get a faster response - good luck!

  • LaurenM87

Thanks! I'll head over and check it out! :)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Happy Wednesday!

Hi all - looking for some quick help!  Just got off the phone with our son and he is having car trouble - does anyone know of a reliable mechanic in Goose Creek area?  He has a Ford Focus......He's hoping to get it into a shop on Tuesday after comps.  And we are flying in on Wednesday and weren't renting a car 'cuz he had his......now to rent a car too!  Oy!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Thanks Sailorlady! I will pass this info on to him.....I even got the link to their website from a Navy Dad in case anyone else is interested.

  • SherBear Nuke Mom (ET)

LaurenM87, not sure you are allowed to live off base during A school. The housing isn't bad at all. A little outdated but still nice. My son and dil ended up with a 3 bedroom house (all that was available at the time). They are duplex houses. They seem happy there. I like it because theres extra room for me to visit!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Sailor and 29 others didn't pass comps on Tuesday :(  They will "re-comp" on Wednesday next week.....This will be it as sailor says - "One & Done".  Please pray for all of them to pass......

  • Navy brat/mom

Definitely praying for those who will be retaking their test. Seems this week was not good for nuke tests.... Austin missed being accepted into the nuke engineering program by 6 points on Thursday. We will get through Christmas then start our count down of 90 days where he can retry. Good luck to all in Charleston and may all of you have a safe and blessed Merry Christmas.
  • ProudNavyDad

Hopes and prayers with all the sailors retaking tests!  And for the concerned parents at home.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Thanks for the continued prayers.  Spoke with our sailor last night and he has been busy, busy, busy studying for the re-test on Wednesday.

Navy brat/mom - good luck to your son with his re-test to get into the nuke program.  For now just enjoy the holidays and don't worry about it - take this time to enjoy family & friends!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Doing the Happy Dance - everyone who took the re-test today passed! Thank you everyone for the prayers!!!
